Here are the design questions I have to Alicila and her replies.


Question and Answers for my client 

Kitchen

  1. Will you be hosting any events or family and friends in your kitchen?
answer: just family sometimes friends.

  1. What did you like, or didn’t you like in your existing kitchen?
answer: blue and terracotta colours. Also didn't have enough bench space 

  1. Do you spend a lot of time cooking?
answer: yes everyone cooks and always at different times

  1. Do you want the kitchen hidden, in a separate room or in an open space in the middle of the apartment?
answer: open 

  1. Are you open to colour in a splashback?
answer: i am after a  mirror look 

  1. How do you like to cook? Quick and fast or take your time?
answer: for dinner take my time otherwise fast 

  1. Would you be open to having a cantilever benchtop with barstool?
answer: yes i would love that 

  1. What kind of materials do you like? Wood/natural/stone/glass/tiles/metal? Or do you prefer a more polished/shiny look? Or do you gravitate towards materials that are raw and textured?
answer: wood,natural,tiles no i dont like anything shinny

  1. Do you like seeing your fridge/dishwasher/oven hidden with cupboards?
answer: i don't mind 

  1. Do you like watching TV while you cook?

answer: yes we love watching t.v but doesn't need to be while we cook

Bathroom

  1. Do you want something practical and functional or luxurious? 
answer: luxurious 

  1. Do you want a bath, a shower, or both? 
answer: both 

  1. What are your storage needs? Do you have a lot of things you keep in the bathroom?
answer: i would like a mirror with storage behind it and maybe some draws under the bench 

  1. Do you take your time to get ready in the morning and at night, or do you find yourself rushing and it’s a fast process?
answer: If i dont gym in the morning i take my time same with night 

  1. Do you mind sharing a sink?
answer: no 
  1. Are you open to using colour in tiles, or do you want a more natural style?
answer: natural but i don't mind a feature wall maybe 

  1. Would you want heated flooring?
answer: yes in bathrooms 
  1. Would you prefer a bathroom with frosted windows or blinds?
answer: frosted windows 

  1. Is lighting on a mirror, like LED lighting, important to you, or would you prefer natural lighting?
answer: no not important because i have sensitive eyes so more natural lighting so i light that i can change the brightness 

  1. Do you have a lot of shower products that you would want on a shelf? 
answer: no not really 

  1. Do you have any injuries that effect your mobility?

answer: no 

Apartment

  1. Do you have a certain style or favourite look you want to recreate?
answer: warm cozy monochromatic look 

  1. What age group are we targeting?
answer: 35-45 with teenage kids 

  1. Would you prefer a bigger kitchen and living space over bedroom space?
answer: kitchen and living space bigger

  1. Do you want a lot of natural lighting with big windows?
answer: i have sensitive eyes so i would love more natural light but maybe double grazing windows

  1. Are the people living in the home very active, and like being outside?
answer: yes love doing outdoor activities like sport 

  1. Are views important to you?
answer: yes 
  1. Do you work from home and need an office space/study?
answer: yes i study and i would want a space to work from but i don't need a separate room to do so.

  1. What is your favorite thing to do in your downtime/what are your hobbies?
answer: movies, yoga 

  1. Are there any architects or design styles that you like or are drawn to more?
answer: no one that comes to mind but i do like monochromatic colour palette grey,black,white,wood 

  1. Are your styles more formal/modern/casual/country/minimalistic? Or a combination? Are you open to different styles?
answer: modern/ casual/ classic 

  1. Are there any special features important to you in your home, for example fireplace, cathedral ceilings, or a sunroom? 
answer: yes i would love a fireplace in the living room and the living room to have high ceilings. Also I have a window art piece that needs to be on one of the windows.

  1. Do you want any specific designs going through every room?
answer: just a flow with same colours 

  1. Do you prefer carpet or hard flooring? 
answer: wood on living and kitchen and stairs but carpet in bedrooms and tiles in bathrooms 

  1. Is there a message or feeling you want the house to carry?
answer: cozy and warm but modern and monochromatic

  1. Do you spend a lot of time away from home, or is it always occupied?
answer: always occupied 

  1. Is the apartment for use of re-sale?
answer: 10 years 

  1. In your lifetime do you find yourself needing more space to work around or you have enough?
answer: i always have enough space 

  1. Do you want certain rooms soundproof or hidden around corners? Or would you prefer to be able to hear everything? For example – being able to hear your children, or a quiet office space?
answer: just bathrooms have to be soundproof 

  1. What relationship between rooms and spaces are important?
answer: living next to outdoor living space like a deck so outdoor indoor flow. But not any other room.

  1. Do you like bright colours specifically? Or do you like natural and earthy tones more.
answer: earthly tones and monochromatic
  1. Where in the house do people or yourself spend more time?

answer: bedroom and living space.

Shannon works in painting, sculpture and installation with a focus on using genetic forms to explore he's deep and abiding interest in there enter relationship between sound, colour,form,time space and social context. I was thinking of using  this window art in the main bathroom on a big window with looks of light from the sun beaming onto it. this is a very bold statement piece so I would go white walls and dark grey tiles in there and keep everything else plan and simple. This will be for her family and friends that visit.

Im looking for a monochromatic colour palette. Warm shades of greys and off whites.
A cozy, loungy feeling space that isn't precious. 
Low couches, side tables and lamps to put your cup of tea on and read a book or watch a movie.

I couldn't  find a kitchen I like, but if the finishes are a combination of blacks, greys and some timber that would be lovely. Double inbuilt fridge and bar stools around an island would be awesome.

I love unusual shaped spaces like the ones below. 
I’d like the space below the stairs to be functional in some way - either for storage or better yet, a creative use like a reading nook

You can use this extra bench space for putting platters on if you can friends over or homework for the kids or for her design space. but with light wood dark grey, black,white and brass. the other image I have added is some colours that would work better from Pinterest.

Alicia said she wants a comfy cozy low to the ground sofa. this works really well with her colour pallet and its very low and deep and soft you can also seperate each piece and remove them if you would like. make armchairs or a full sofa or a bed style. so when she has all her family on the same place they can move the sofa or pull it apart to it suits everyone needs.
