One reason why a certain group has been underrepresented is due to racism within Scotland.

Within Scotland ethnic minorities are underrepresented within Scottish Parliament which MSPs are trying to encourage a more diverse range of MSPs.

For example, Kaubab Stewart experienced racist comments when trying to run for MSP in SP of which she experienced racist comments about her participation within Scottish politics.

Racism can put people off getting into politics and may also limit the amount of in parliment because they are more likely to face abuse. For example, Humza Yousaf has spoken about the abuse he has recieved because of his skin colour.
