Sometimes adding numbers can be tricky. For todays lesson in this first subject I would like if you could try a few problems on your own.

A good way we can understand adding multiple one-digit numbers can be by making groups of pictures with circles in each group. One group will have a circle of one circle the next group will have a circle of two circles inside the circle the next will have 3, then 5, and lastly 6. Count each circle in the groups and you will then get the sum (answer).

This is a great way for second graders to learn VISUALLY. Kids love visual pictures to help them.

Skill plan/lesson idea plan:

Write the numbers with the place values lined up.
Add the digits in the ones place. Regroup, if needed.
Add the digits in the tens place. Regroup, if needed.
Keep going until you have added all of the place values. Continue to move to the next largest place and regroup as needed.

For this subject you will also be refering to your cube blocks in your desk. But this time we will take out our HUNDREDS blocks. You will still continue to use your tens and ones blocks. Please do this method instead of looking up answers as it will tell me where you are with counting blocks and your place value objectives. REFER TO IXL LINK BELOW.

STUDENTS- please watch BOTH the videos BELOW before the IXL. The reason for this is because three digit numbers are much harder to do. I want to be sure you have a clear understanding of what to do and how to do this right!
