This imagery develops the theme of trust between Eva and Genevieve. The yellowing of the pages shows how old this book was, and Genevieve looked for names in a book this old to try and save Remy. This shows the devotion Genevieve has put in to help Remy and Eva by default, so Eva is beginning to trust her more.
