When Remy was taken because of his false papers, Eva and Genevieve worked to find an identity that he can use to help him escape.

The yellowing of the pages shows how old this book was, and Genevieve looked for names in a book this old to try and save Remy. This shows the devotion Genevieve has put in to help Remy and Eva by default, so Eva is beginning to trust her more.

She knew now that they were all on the same side.” This theme of religion really shows how desperate Eva is at this time. Seeing her mother still bashing Eva for not saving her husband and Remy being found out and her father. She was praying for all of them even though the man on the cross was supposed to mean nothing to her.

“And in the midst of a war like this, you realize that family is more than just blood.” -This sentence shows the theme of the importance of family as well as the theme of trust. Madame Barbier is explaining to Eva how her, Pere Clement, the children Eva has helped save, and the men and women who continue to fight for France because Eva protected them..are all part of her family now. This is because of the impact that she has put on every one of their lives. This sentence shows how through hardships, you always need someone behind you to help you through them.
