The other half of the recommended way to eat healthy, consists of fruit, dairy, meat, poultry and nuts. The Australian department of health has also suggested to minimize the amount of sugar and fat in foods.

All around Australia, there are American, Indian, Thai and Chinese restaurants. However, American restaurants aren't labelled 'American' because Australians have accepted American foods into their everyday diet and are no longer thought of as American. An example of this is displayed in the photo down below.

American foods such as spices, cooking styles, ingredients, recipes and availability of American foods in Australia, are a big factor on how American foods have impacted on Australian cuisine. With many American business and foods being introduced, more jobs are being created because of this. This also helps the Australian economy.

Ingredients from America that are now used in Australia include Ranch dressing, Candy corn, tater tots (Australians know them as potato gems), reindeer sausages and mac & cheese. These are only some examples. Other than America only introducing these ingredients/foods, they have also introduced spices like wild onion, cooking styles such as deep frying and recipes like sloppy Joe's, milkshakes, burgers and mac & cheese.

With all of these foods and recipes that have been introduced into Australia, we have been able to use their foods/cooking styles and have been continuously eating them ever since, just like Americans.

Without all of these foods, recipes, businesses, and cooking styles that America has introduced, Australia cuisine would be very different. It could possibly be healthier than what it is now.

With all of the foods that Americans have introduced, Australia has become very unhealthy. Lots of our cuisine consists of sugars, fats and high levels of artificial colors and flavors. To meet the criteria for Australia's nutrition goals, Australians could easily cut down on the amount of sugar and fat they put into their foods that they consume daily. This would make Australian's more healthy.

Popular cooking appliances to create these American foods include deep fryers and a 'fast food' style of cooking. For both of these ways of cooking, many unhealthy factors are included within the process of creating these types of food. These unhealthy factors are the oil in which the food is cooked in, the sugar, the fat and the preservatives, artificial colours and flavours that are also found in these foods.

To make the foods that are cooked in these ways healthier, Australians can use less oil or a different kind, can make the food with no artificial colours/flavours and without any preservatives. Australians especially need to pay attention to how much sugar and fat is in the foods that they are eating from these American restaurants.

The Way Australians Cook

Cooking something from a different country means a recipe would most likely be followed. When we cook these American foods, we don't necessarily need to follow the recipe step by step. Instead of deep frying it in oil, find an alternative. Instead of using 2 cups of sugar, use 1 cup. Not only could Australians take away unhealthy ingredients, but they can also add more vegetables, fruits and can serve it with a glass of milk or water instead of soda. By Australians doing this, they would be closer to be considered eating healthily when referring to the Australian Guide To Healthy Eating.

Overall, America has had a massive impact on Australian Cuisine in a way where Australians no longer consider American foods as just American. The foods that were brought into Australia by the Americans are full of ingredients that are the complete opposite on what the Australian guide to healthy eating says that Australians should be eating. Although America has made a massive impact, Australian Cuisine is not only just made up of American foods, it's made up of many different cultures including Australia.
