         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>PROS:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Students are able to work independently.</p></li><li><p>AT can be customized to fit the specific needs of every individual student.</p></li><li><p>Allows non verbal students to have a voice and communicate to their peers.</p></li><li><p>Allows students to socialize and participate in school activities.</p></li><li><p>Students can work in both a special education classroom and general education classroom.</p></li><li><p>Students can not only learn more academics, but show what they know.</p></li><li><p>Helps teach students new skills such as self advocacy, problem solving, communication, and independence.</p></li><li><p>Can be used throughout the students' future during transitions, work, schooling, and more!</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>CONS:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Most AT is very expensive</p></li><li><p>Can take a long time to complete the process of finding the best AT for each specific student</p></li><li><p>Technology can have flaws and it is probably not going to work perfectly throughout using the AT device. Malfunctions could occur.</p></li><li><p>Lots of time and hard work needs to be put into going to trainings and learning about the specific AT you decide to use for your students.</p></li><li><p>Students can over-rely on AT and be too dependent on it to learn other skills.</p></li></ul><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>What do you see as your role as a teacher in the AT process?</strong></p><ul><li><p>Collaborate with families, students, and other professionals or specialists such as a speech language pathologist and occupational therapist.</p></li><li><p>Assess students on their needs, goals, strengths, weaknesses, and skills.</p></li><li><p>Collect data on my students' performance, progress, and struggles with AT.</p></li><li><p>Advocate for students that may need AT, need better AT, or other needs related to their AT journey.</p></li><li><p>Support students in the use of AT and making sure they are using it correctly.</p></li><li><p>Adjust supports or your plan to create the best outcome for your students.</p></li><li><p>Be a good listener and help as much as you can throughout the process.</p></li></ul>]]></description>
