I cried a lot thinking that maybe we couldn’t go because of Covid-19 and that we couldn't see our grandparents too after six months that we were apart, fortunately we went and we were lucky because in Calabria the number of cases was very low and we could stay with the others without worrying about getting ill. I will be forever  grateful to that place because It really made me feel like I were out of the world, even just for one month and it let my fear for the future go away.When I’m there, diving in the sea, I usually close my eyes, and listen to my heart beating, suddenly I’m not afraid of what the future is holding for me, I’m there, in the place that I love, with my family, my grandparents, my friends and I really don’t need anything else.

So thank you sea because, even when everything seemed to be going wrong, I had one of the best summers in my life.

Today I want to thank Fabio, the president of the musical band of my town who gave me the chance to reach one of my dreams. I joined the band at the age of 14, although the minimum age was 16. I will never forget my first concert, on the same day of 25th anniversary of the band. Although most of the musicians are older than me, I have found a second home and a big family that I know I can count on. They make me feel happy and relaxed and at the same time I can enjoy music. Thank you is a very common word that we use almost every day, but do we truly mean it when we say it?

I think this word is not valued highly enough, most of the times we say it just because we are used to doing so; personally I would prefer us to say it less but with more intention, that we stopped for a moment to think about what and who really helped us in our journey.

In my personal experience I need to thank all the people who influenced me (and will continue to do so) during my lifetime because they helped me to become the person I am today. In particular I want to thank my family, who taught me everything, the friends I made all around the world and also all the negative people that I met, even if they hurt me, because they made me stronger.

To celebrate this important day I want to make a promise to myself and I want to encourage everybody to do the same: we need to remember to thank the people who choose to stay in our lives no matter what because I am sure that a short word like thank you can change the day, or even more, to someone and we must not underestimate it.

This is one of the songs from my favourite artist, Daron Malakian.

The singer has hit rock bottom but the people around him don’t care: they are changing and going away. He wants to commit suicide but in the end he holds on to life hoping that someone will help him.

This song reminds me of my friendships, the current ones and the ones that have sadly ended. I want to thank every person that has ever been my friend, because in a way or another every single one of them has given me support when I wasn’t feeling at my best. 

I want also to thank my friends for all that they have done not to make me feel alone. Especially I want to thank Alice, Iris and Lisa because without them everything, in this period, would be more difficult and sad. They have stood beside me, despite the distance that separates us, when I needed it. 

I would like to dedicate them a piece of a Queen' song "Friends Will Be Friends" because it represents what for me is friendship:

In conclusion, I want to thank life itself because it has given me the possibility to be surrounded by all these beautiful people with whom I can have special moments that I will always remember.

Even just by thinking about it for a while, we may realize how many times per day we have the chance to thank someone but we just ignore it. For example if a member of our family cooks for us or if a friend spends some of his time in order to help us, we do not always show as much appreciation as we should. 

However not only relatives or friends deserve to be thanked, whoever does us a favor, even an employee who is getting paid for his job anyway, is worth getting thanked as he is playing his role in order to make society a better place.

Moreover, it is worthwhile to consider our propensity to say “sorry” without any exceptions and whenever we do something wrong, in order to compare it to our inclination for thanking people. We do not thank people as much as we apologize because we have no profit in it.

However it is more satisfying to hear a single “thank you” than lots of “sorry”, the first one makes someone smile while the second one simply quells anger. 

This does not mean that we must not ever apologize: it is necessary to say both “thank you” and “sorry”, but we should avoid getting in the situation where we have to apologize in the first place and start using our thanks more often.

I couldn’t imagine that two months after you wouldn’t have been with us. The hospital, the first diagnosis of cancer, the last time I saw you alive and then the death: it all happened in a while, before I could even begin to realize it. It is something really exhausting to write something for you today, and it is also unnatural for me to write it in English. Maybe you’re wondering why I’m doing it: you must know that today is the international “Thank You” day and our English teacher has asked us to produce something related to it.

In my letter, I told you I was trying to improve my life by looking for beautiful things and people and for significant emotions and feelings. However, I want to be sincere with you, I’m not hard-working on it. I could use a lot of excuses: we’re in lockdown, it is complicated to do social activity… But the fact is that I’m not putting my effort on it.

Nevertheless, what I’d like to tell you now is a great “Thank You” for everything you have done for me and for everything you are going to mean for me now that we cannot meet. You were not only an extraordinary grandma; you were also a woman which everyone in the world should have the opportunity to know. Hoping to be able to replicate your ragù, I’ll say goodbye. And thank you again, grandma. 

Every morning, when we wake up, we start a new day going to school or to work almost as if it is an our right, we do not thank God for making us wake up, there are lot of people who go to bed and die during the night, so we must realize the luck we have waking up every single morning and mostly we should start the day by thanking God. 

I would like to thank my parents  too, they maintain me every single day, they give me a home where to stay, a bed to sleep, a kitchen to eat, money to buy clothes and something I like, they give me all their love, their patience, their happiness, their strength, their teachings... they would do everything for me and my sister.

I thank them a few times, wrongly, because I should thank them every day before going to bed, they are special and I could never ask for better parents.

Thanks to my sister, my best friend, even if sometimes we argue we know that we will always help and be there for each other. 

Finally I would like to thank my friends too, it is not easy to stay with me, I do not have an easy character, I am a lively and selfless person, but I am also stubborn and touchy. 

Today, thanks to this day, I understood how important it is to say “thank you”, I do not have to be superficial and take this word for granted.

Thanks to Football that allowed me to poor out and use my enrergy in something good, while i was keeping it in my body for many time.

In fact, in every situation of life a word it’s never just a word, it always means more.

So I often wonder where some words come from and I am always shocked by what I find.

For example, the adjective “cordial”, which we usually use as a greeting on emails to keep a formal distance from our interlocutor, actually comes from the latin word “cordialis” and it means “pertaining to the heart”. And for me it is such a wonderful meaning that I wonder why we have covered it up.

But “cordial” is not the only word we use with different meanings from the past. For instance, do you know that “thank” actually means “loving memory”? So, when you thank someone, you are not just being polite, but you are collecting a memory, you are  making this person a part of your mind, a piece of your heart. 

Saying”thank you”is not something pointless, yet it is making themselves vulnerable, giving someone a space in our memories, keeping a person in the heart.

We have to come back to the actual meaning of “thank”; however, we must not be afraid of saying it to other people. We should keep an open heart and don’t be frightened by the meanings of words, such  powerful weapons.

There are simple words that can make miracles because they open people's hearts and "thanks" is one of them. "Thanks" is one of those words we often forget to say. Giving thanks is one of the simplest gestures but at the same time full of meaning. To thank someone means to be grateful to someone for what has been done for us, recognizing the help a person has given us. Receiving a “thanks” is even more beautiful, because it fills a person with happiness and so this person understands that the gesture he made was appreciated by someone.

In this moment I should thank all the people I have met in these 18 years, who have made me grow by helping me in every moment. Each person is fundamental: friends, teachers, the football coach, grandparents, uncles, my brother, my father and my mother.

On the other hand, the person I want to thank more is my grandmother, Lucia. She is the best person in the world, she is always available, she always helps me, she never criticizes me and despite sometimes I answer badly, she is always there, she is always ready to give me her love. She is a very special person, for this I have to say her a big THANK YOU and I dedicate her a few lines of an Italian song that I really like and that I have tried to translate.

First of all, thanks to my mum and dad who have always supported me, and always will, thanks to them who never let me falling apart, who left me my spaces without questions when silence was all I asked for.

I found it in the middle of the square, everyone was staring at it. 

Actually, I don’t know who made it, but I like to think that it was made by a little child with his grandparents. 

It reminds me of my childhood.

When I was younger, I used to go with my grandma and grandpa to the mountains during the Christmas holidays and that was absolutely my favorite time of the year.

 

This has been a very difficult year for us all. Many things have changed, including our relationship with our grandparents for their own good. 

But I can’t help thinking about all those little moments that made me feel happy and loved.

For me, these are the memories that are worth cherishing.

One of the things I personally noticed the most about my life, is the genuine tendency some people have to take care of me, relatives and friends. I think that it is not easy to spot this for a person, because it is all about small things people we love do everyday to make us happy, but  if you realize that, it will certainly change your perspective on everything.

 
The perseverance with which  my parents help me to live my best life giving me all the types of comforts, the efforts of my grandad who is a former teacher and helps me with maths, the fact I can always count on the support of my closest friends: this is all I want to say thanks about and these are the people who motivate me to do always my best in every situation and to grow up with a lot of certanities behind.

Just take a minute during the day to remember that your friends, the family, the school, the rights you have, your house and everything else are not something you can hold back, they can disappear. 

So say thank you whenever you can, it could be rewarding even for yourself to let others know how thankful you are to have them in your life.

 During the last twelve months we have really been through a lot and when so many bad things happen, one is naturally going to be pessimistic about everything: for me, these kinds of ideas are dangerous, and can only make you suffer more,  because they do not provide any happier or even different point of view.

I think that seeing the glass halfway full is a much better way to live your life: in fact, by focusing on the good things that happen to us everyday, even during this hard times, it becomes natural to say thanks for everything good, for your dog, your family and friends; for the music, that keeps you going no matter what, for those people you can be yourself with, for those you love, for those who love you even though  you do not notice, for your teachers and for your school. Eventually, you will really start to feel grateful about what you have, and you will come to realization that there is no such thing as a life that is better than yours, that all the things you wished you had are really not that important.

Personally, I also had a very difficult year, mostly for reasons out of my control, but I choose not to stress about all of these things, instead paying attention to all the great things that happen to me. I am grateful for my friends, with whom i had a lot of fun: during the summer, after months in my home without seeing them; I feel grateful for my family, my loved ones, for all the things I have and so on. I like to express my gratitude every day, so that, looking back on the months that have gone by, I will feel happy, relaxed and, surrounded by a light sense of nostalgia, ever more grateful about my wonderful life.

For example, I feel thankful for lots of people I see, even if we're not so close; I remember all the little things about every friend of mine, and I feel grateful about every nice word they said to me.

I feel especially happy about a friend of mine, who introduced me to a large group of friends and a new sport I really enjoy: I now see them and train almost every day, and convince me to get out, even if it rains or it is cold outside: it made me learn how not to feel down by staying in bed all day. I love spending time with them even just hanging out all day, getting to learn every single one of them.

Furthermore, I feel really grateful for my closest friends: we used to stay together all the time in middle school, but then we fell a bit apart during the first two years of high school. Luckily, someday we randomly decided to meet up, and had a great time; since then, we see each other really often, and we feel really close. I now know that I’ll have some great friends I can count on for the rest of my life, at the point that it’s even hard to explain how much I see them as a family.

So, on the occasion of the international thank you day, I would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who since February have been working and fighting day and night to heal patients with the virus, to make them feel at ease and loved since, unfortunately, they cannot see their relatives and friends while they at hospital. I would also like to thank all the scientists who have and are still working hard to create a vaccine that can stop the spread of the virus.

In addition to all of them I would like to thank my whole family for always supporting me and believing in me more than I do, but also for putting up with me during the long months of lookdown, thanks to which I was able to truly appreciate the family time that I used to take for granted. 

Writing this text made me reflect on how infrequently we come out with these two simple words "thank you" which however have more value than many long speeches. I believe that all of us should be more grateful for life and all the opportunities it offers us, for the help that parents and friends give us, and for the teachings of teachers.

So I think the right thing to do is not to thank once a year on the occasion of the international thank you day, but every day, every morning when you wake up and evenings before going to sleep for the day that has passed.

In conclusion, in my opinion the international thank you day should not have a specific day but should be extended to all 365 days of the year.

First of all, thank you mom, thank you dad for making me what I am, for giving me a solid foundation on which to grow.

Thank you because you are the ones who raised me, helped me, but not always indulged, I heard many ‘No’ who taught me the value of things. You have taught me that in life some things are just superficial and that I should focus on others. 

Thank you teachers who have enriched our minds, thank you friends for your friendship and for the moments of fun. 

I am grateful for being born in a period in which we are all connected, despite the distances, despite the pandemic, technology has made all this possible and we must be grateful to live in conditions that allow us to make the most of it. Thanks to the doctors who during this time have exposed themselves to face the emergency; thanks to the researchers who have found the solution that could put an end to the virus.

These two words are very simple but so meaningful to receive and also to say. They express gratitude and appreciation to people who have done and keep doing something for you, even though it means for them making big efforts which are not always paid back. 

So I would say thank you to my parents and my family, for the sacrifices they have made to help me, for the huge amount of patience they have, for everything they do to make me a better person.

I’m pretty sure it will, but it’s not a fact related to luck or fate, and neither have we kicked 2020 out, as if it was a villain, so that now we can immediately come back to our normal life and forget about a sort of “bad dream”. In fact, we are still into this “bad dream”, but something has changed through the year. We have gained awareness and responsibility, not only about the virus, but also about all its consequences.

Everyone has worked a lot in order to run away from this situation: some people, such as doctors and nurses, have fought on the front line, others have had less risky, but not less crucial tasks, for example the ones who have studied how the virus works, so that we can try to fight it, or the ones who have managed to plan economic rules suitable for the conditions.

2021 will not be automatically better than 2020, just because that has been a very tough year, but we do have the opportunity to make it better thanks to the work done by all those people, therefore my “Thank you” goes to everyone who has made an effort to give a helping hand to the world.

Only two words maybe matched with a bright smile under our masks are able to turn upside down an entire day made of sadness and anxiety.

Thanking someone such as smiling are highly underrated, but these are habits we should re-acquire in order to enhance the days of everyone around us, so, if I were you, I would say “thank you” to all the people who made your days better, because knowing that someone has been able to appreciate your effort is something that leads you to do always better.

To get the ball rolling I’ll start: thanks to my family, my teacher, my mates, my sport and why not, to my dog, who will never know how important he is.

And remember that what we take for granted, for other not always it is because, as Huxley said “Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted”, so, when in doubt, don’t be among that “most” and thank: it costs anything but pays a lot.

A serious pandemic of Coronavirus, in fact, has hit us: many people have died alone, others have managed to save themselves, but unfortunately the Virus continues to be very present in the society.

During this pandemic, we have been afraid, we have been indignant at some of the rules laid down by the government, but in the face of misfortune, we have shown a great deal of courage and solidarity.

Thank you 2020 for making me discover what the important things in life are. 

I am especially grateful to my family for allowing me to become the person I am now, with my strengths and weaknesses.

My parents always supported me and encouraged me in all my decisions and together we managed to overcome all the difficulties we had to go through in the months of 2020.

My mother works in a nursing home for elderly people so she is very much in contact with Covid patients and I am very worried about her.  But she is very brave and she has always put the health of her patients first in her life.

During the pandemic she was very stressed, but in spite of that she never let me lack affection. 

She is getting the new Covid vaccine next week and I hope this will be the ultimate solution to the pandemic.

Thank you again 2020 for making me understand how great are the strength and heart of the Italians who never gave up and will continue to fight for their lives.

Sometimes it is right to reflect in order to acknowledge this and thank the people in our life who have been, or still are, there for us. 

Last year has been particularly hard for all of us, and I believe that we should take time to recall and recognize the people who made sacrifices for us despite it being a really tough time for them too. 

I would like to say thank you to the doctors and nurses who had to work in extreme conditions for several hours, treating patients who were suffering for the terrible disease of covid-19, in addition to the lethal illnesses that usually strike. I would like to thank them for making such difficult choices, that no human being should ever go through, and for doing everything they were capable of. 

I also want to express my gratitude towards all the workers, who had to work under unusual conditions, such as smart working or wearing masks and other precautions, or had to work additional hours and solve the several problems caused by the pandemic.

I’m grateful for every single author, with such a powerful mind and imagination, able to create a book, able to give birth to a completely different world, able to animate deep and complex characters. This might sound silly, and I know a lot of people wouldn’t understand what I feel, but I cannot begin to describe how much I love books, and how much books have helped me. I feel like every time I try to explain myself the question is the same, why would I waste so much time on books when there is a whole reality outside of my room? The answer is not simple, and I’m not trying to hide myself, but sometimes rereading a book feels like going home, sometimes the characters are so well developed that they almost feel real, and getting to know a character that behaves and thinks like you helps a lot. There are so many genres that it is impossible not to find something that suits your taste, I’m grateful for the representation in contemporary books. They opened my eyes regarding some very hard and unfair situations around the world, and also on topics like race, mental health, eating disorders and so much more.

I’m so grateful for sci-fi and fantasy books not only because of the adventures I cannot live and experience firsthand, but also for the life lessons, for the distraction they provided me in such a difficult time.

In these hard times we have learned not to take anything for granted and, in my opinion, we have realized that sometimes it is better to show your gratitude and express your feelings to the people you love, because tomorrow we may no longer have the opportunity to do it. We have understood that nothing lasts forever and that “life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. We must enjoy our lives better than we can, because life is always a surprise.

So today I decided to thank the people who have always been there for me.

Thank you my little kitty: you saw me grow up every year and you embellished all my days with your love and your fondness. 2020 was your last year in this world, but it won't be the last moment with me or by my side. 

Thank you friends, new or old ones: you made me laugh and smile during this terrible time in quarantine, and with you I spent moments that in my eyes are more precious than a box full of jewels. With you I've improved my patience, but the path to calm down my quick-tempered personality is really long and harsh.

Tanks to my relatives, that are always so nice with me and give me hope in a better future.

Thanks to my parents, that during this year worked hard at the hospital and, despite everything, they found the time to offer me the essential strenght and the important courage to continue and cherish all my dreams. They are one of the reasons why I keep going on.

During the past few years I realized how much the people around me matter, how bad it would be without them. I stopped taking for granted the things I had and the fact that I was safe, under a roof, with my family and friends, my head not targeted by bombs. 

Then it happened again, I got stuck in the void one more time. Nothing mattered anymore, I could have disappeared in a second and that would not have changed a single thing for me.

The months passed by, relentlessly, and just as I was about to give it all up I managed to recover, I finally got out of that deep hole that I still struggle to speak about.

Then again I was filled with so much joy and gratefulness for everything I had, but this time it was real. 

A cup of coffee, a text from a long-time-no-see person, a walk on snowy grass with friends, a “have a nice day” from the cashier of your local market, a kid laughing down the street, a kiss on the forehead from someone you love: it all came back. 

Be thankful, everyday, it’s going to be okay.

Thanks to you, this year was not like the others. I have learned what is important in life, that nothing is taken for granted and nothing is impossible. 

You gave me a chance to understand that really, as the fox told the little prince, the essentials lie in the little things.

I choose this text because, albeit the period which all of us are confronting, with no more gatherings with friends and relations, thankful to this strong relationship I did and I’m also now carrying on to live with joy and passion, chatting on Instagram, Whatsapp, Facevideo, to wake up at the morning with a smile on my face, to do lessons online and even homework, despite it can seem totally outmind and very weird.

All of them are social networks which permit us to share, also in this hard year, our moments of delight, joy, but even distress, darkness, sorrow through an ironic and sarcastic way.

After all we are not as unlucky as we think, we had better thank fate: if we had been through the last century in a similar situation, what would we manage to do? 

Instead now in 2021 we can pursue our scolar program, do activities, surely in distance with a computer: it’s always better than nothing; but most of all there is the possibility to talk with our friends, watching films with them.

Since according to me a life, without relationship with others, is not a life worthy to have lived.

So, I myself, thank all those who stand by me.

First of all, I want to thank all my friends who stayed next to me despite the bad period we have been through and that we are passing even now, and I want to thank them also because they made this time a little bit lighter and funnier. 

I realized that this is not obvious because this period was hard for everybody, going through this and in the meantime keep and improve friendships is not that easy like it seems, so I'm really grateful for all my friends.

I would like to thank my classmates because without them this term would have been much more difficult and much more boring. 

I want to thank my little brother too. Sometimes he is a devil, but he is the kindest and most caring child in the world. All of his cuddles made me extremely grateful to have him here with me.

HE was one of the most beautiful things I have had and he completely disappeared from my life.

A thank you is something which has the power to make someone's smile, so I want to be grateful

to my family who have always made me smile. I want to thank them for always being by my side when I am upset or unhappy. They have been, and will always be, the most important support I could ever have.

My main thought on this day goes to my aunt who taught me a lot.

Even though she passed away a few months ago, she will always be a special person and I wish I had thanked her in person for everything she did for me.

This period made me understand what’s really important to me and which people I care about the most.

I could understand the importance of all the little things, which before seemed insignificant to me, and the importance of simple words, just like “thank you”, that we are not often used to saying.

We should all learn to say more often thanks to the people we’re grateful to.

First of all I am grateful for my parents because, no matter what, they have always been by my side even though we’ve been suffering a lot ever since my grandmother passed away. She was my favorite; we were like best friends and I enjoyed playing cards and sharing all my experiences with her.  Anyhow I cherish all the sacrifices my parents make for me and I’m amazed by the effort they put into everything they do; I really love them even though sometimes I show myself cold and aloof. I will never know how hard it is to be a parent until I become one but I appreciate their effort and love in bringing me up to be a better person every day. 

Mom and dad, you’ve gone through a lot of struggle and pain. I promise I won’t let all that go in vain and I will grow up, to be the best I can be.

Secondly I would like to thank all my friends for always helping me through my darkest hours especially my bosom friend. Caterina, you’re a true friend who has done a lot for me and I can never thank you enough. Sometimes I can be a difficult person but you are always right there for me. You brighten up my days, you have never failed to make me smile; your positivity and kindness have made an unbearable time a little bit better and I’m incredibly lucky to have you in my life…. To me, you’re the sister I have never had. 

Last and not least, it might sound crazy or rather peculiar, but I'm thankful for music even though it’s not a person. However, I’m helpless without it: music suggests emotions, it evokes your beloved ones or simply that one person you love.

Since today’s the International Thank You Day, I take this opportunity to thank all the people I care for.

Thank you.

First of all I want to thank my parents who have always supported me in every decision I made and who have never left me alone. I am aware that I can and will always count on them.

Thank you, thank you and thank you again, International Thank-You Day, for reminding the world of the importance of this simple expression. Even though saying thank you is everyday etiquette and a simple courtesy that takes just a moment, costs nothing and requires almost no effort, it is quite often forgotten, which is unfortunate since a plain thank you can bring at least one more smile in the world.

A thank you shows appreciation. 

A thank you conveys gratitude.

A thank you is a sign of respect to the person who has helped you.

A thank you is a sign of respect to the person who has given you something.

I personally would like to say too many thank yous to include them all in this brief Padlet post, especially if I did that as thoroughly as I wanted to, nevertheless I want to write some thank yous right here, right now, to teach that saying thank you is not as difficult as it sounds and that even a small thank you is a start.

This past year was very difficult and we all know that we had to avoid contact for a very long time, we heard the details from day to day, always communicating negative details and some of us lost a beloved one.

In all this situation I felt useless, because I could not do anything except staying at home, studying and passing time with my family. But I realized more the importance of being with people I love and especially the importance of saying “thank you”.

It is a simple expression that could mean everything if said to the right person in the right moment. And I would like to say it to all the people present in my life who have always been there for me, to my family and my friends.

A big thank you I would say to all the medical staff who have used all their energy to do their job and save lives, despite the risk of endangering their health.

This pandemic has made us feel more insecure about lots of things but has helped us understand more the value of family, friends and people close to us and especially the value of a simple “thank you”.

So, especially because nobody will ever be able to give them enough recognition, I personally want to thank not only the doctors, nurses, public workers or even ministers who worked through all the hardships that 2020 gave us, but also every single citizen who tried to ease their own lives and others’ ones as well. I am talking about parents making sure their children were safe and sound, people keeping a smile not to make others lose hope, and the ones who, even if not doing anything specific for society, still followed all the rules which last year made necessary.

For example, everyone (rude people left aside) finds normal to thank strangers who’ve helped them finding the right way (or have only tried to), or the barmaid , the casher and who gives you something in general (for instance, in the last example I made, sometimes the two people involved both say “thanks”. I’m not saying this is wrong, on the contrary being polite is important and if everyone was always like that our society would be better. What I’m trying to express here is that there are other things in our lives that we give for granted, but we shouldn’t. 

Speaking about my personal experience, the first person that comes to my mind while thinking about who I should thank more often is my mum, and I believe it is the same for many other teenagers like me. I would like to thank her because she is always there and she makes my life a lot easier every day, doing things she’s not compelled to do, even though she’s always snowed under, only because she loves me; for that she deserves much more gratitude than I show her. 

There are other people in my life that are or have been fundamental for me and have contributed to make me the person I am today, so I’d like to thank them all.

I’d like to thank my dad for working so hard every day in order to give me and my siblings whatever we need and for coming to pick me up anytime I need a lift, even though it’s late and he would like to sleep.

I also want to thank my grandparents, because they have taken care of me during my whole childhood when my parents were at work (sometimes pampering me a little), they are always there whatever I need and they support all my choices. 

Then, I’d like to say “thank you” to my siblings, because, although we often don’t get on well, life without them would be much more boring.

I’d like to thank all my friends, the ones I still have, and the ones I had, regardless of what relationship we have now and why we’re not so close anymore, for all the good moments we have spent together and have made me happy and for every time they’ve been by my side.

Lastly I want to say “thank you” to all the grown-up figures who’ve taught me to do my best in order to achieve my goals: all the teachers I’ve had till now (in particular the ones who’ve transmitted me the passion for their subject, making the study part lighter) and the educators I’ve dealt with in different contexts, for example in the oratory.

I conclude by thanking everyone who dedicates their lives to help others, or even just try to act with generosity and kindness every day, for making our world a little better.

Often, as we grow up, we become accustomed to being thankful we begin to take for granted, such as being able to go to school surrounded by our friends or getting a hug. 

Personally I would like to thank 2020 because, despite all the difficulties, it has enabled me to reawake, to rediscover the good fortune I have always had in my life, to be able to live happily, surrounded by a peaceful environment.

I chose this poem because it is able to translate into words the warm and filling emotion we feel on a beautiful day, when we are surrounded by nature's bloom. It represents how nature is able to enchant us and leave an everlasting impression on us. Even when time has passed since the poet saw the daffodils, their memory still brings him pleasure. I believe this is the same effect joyful memories have on us. When we are living the moment, we often do not realize the happiness it brings us, just like Wordsworth didn't realize the “wealth” the show of the daffodils brought him. It is only when we look back on good times, days, months, or even years later, that we realize how lucky we are to have lived them and to be able to  keep their memory inside of us. 

For this reason I would like to thank my friends, because it is thanks to them that I can proudly say to have a heart full of joyous memories to look back on. Having them by my side really makes life, especially during these hard times, much easier. Just being in their presence brings me joy and it is thanks to them that I can look back on so many fun-filled moments of my life. Whether it be school trips, vacations, nights out or dinners, every memory I have with them is filled with a feeling of warmth, bliss and laughter.

Who knows why - after all, it's such a simple word.

And yet it has gone out of fashion to recognise someone for having done something good for you with a simple ‘thank you’.

People are in such a hurry nowadays: they take their coffee at the bar and go out, they have their car fixed by a mechanic, they get help from their parents or siblings, without ever saying thank you.

Isn't it nice to say a sincere ‘thank’ to someone and recognise that they have really helped?

Saying thank you is important because it's a simple way of saying: 'I appreciate what you've done for me', whether it's a 'trivial' thing like bringing your mother a chocolate or an important action.

To be honest, it's a great feeling to hear someone say thank you. Personally it fills my heart with joy, because I've done something good that didn't waste my time.

Thank you mum for protecting me and raising me in a peaceful and safe place, full of joy and love.

Thank you for always being there for me when I feel lonely, when I don't believe in myself and when everything around me seems black. 

But most of all thank you mum for being there for me even when I am happy, when I achieve my goals; thank you for telling me to be proud of myself.. it is I who am proud of you

First of all we have to remember that the word “thank you” is one of the first words that we learnt as children and should never be forgotten. This is one of the most beautiful words ever and learning it is an achievement and an aspiration that can last a lifetime. Saying “thank you” to parents, family members, children, partner, friends and so on is not just synonymous with education, but it is an emotional skill and regards both the person who pronounces the word and the person who is being thanked. Automatically both people feel grateful to each other.   
I read that there are three different levels of gratitude: gratitude for the benefit received, praise to the one who made it possible and finally the availability to return. The languages accept one of these three levels. For example the English way “thank you” includes the result of the action received. Then the Italian word “grazie” is used to mean that the person who pronounces feels grateful and happy.

On this special day I would like to thank a lot of people I am proud to have next to me.

Thanks to my family who has been supporting me ever since. Especially during this strange difficult year you were able to make me feel better. Without this occasion of the “thank you day” I would not have thought how much I owe to my family because I think that the younger generations take these things for granted.

Thanks to my dearest friends who always know how to make me feel better. You were capable of making me smile on those moments where a smile seemed impossible to obtain. You were also capable of surprising me and making me feel full of joy for what I have.

And finally I want to thank all the teachers who supported us during these sad and difficult times. Sometimes it seems impossible to go over, but together we can collaborate and soon be back at school.

Butter, 100g

Light brown sugar, 100g

White sugar, 50g

Eggs, 2

Vanilla extract, 5g 

Flour, 250g

Sea salt 2g

Baking soda, 5g

Chocolate chips, 150g

PROCESS:

Mix flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl

In another bowl mix sugars and butter until they make a cream

Beat in eggs and vanilla until they became fluffy

Add them to the first two preparations and mix them all together

Add the chocolate chips

Now that your dough is completed, roll a bit portion of it into a ball (about 20)

Place all the balls on a baking sheet 

Heat the oven to 180°

Bake them for 10 minutes until they turn light brown

Baking is something very special to me because it is a passion that I have always shared with my mum for years. Usually we decide the recipe according to what we like and how our mood is, following our cravings for chocolate, apples, biscuits… Kitchen is, therefore, our favourite room of the house due to the fact that there we spend our best time together: we establish a unique connection and we are able to talk about literally everything. 

I do not do it very often, because most of the time I take my mum’s presence for granted, but it is not, and with these cookies I want to thank her, my favourite person of the whole word. She has always supported me and been on my side, she makes me smile even when it seems impossible and she will always accept me for who I am. 

Writing these lines I feel so lucky to be able to have such a wonderful woman beside me and I am very proud of the meaningful relationship that we are building together, aware that this is not the same for a lot of other people that cannot get along with their parents. I wish they would be capable of finding such a significant person on whom they can rely on, like my mum is to me.

I have chosen this quote because it is full of truth. 

Every day I receive love from my family and I rarely thank my parents. I share my life with my sisters and I do not  thank them for being there at any time. Every day I have friends by my side who make me happy and make me feel special and I never thank them enough. 

The opportunities to thank the people who love us are many, but often we do not succeed and who knows why. So I want to take the opportunity to thank all those who have made a difference in my life: my mom and dad for giving birth to me, my grandparents for raising me and loving me, my sisters for putting up with me and supporting me every day, my friends who are a shoulder to cry on and people to be immensely happy with. 

Just thank you for being with me and loving me.

As someone once said, you got the best view when you are on top of the mountain, this can’t be more true, in fact it is only when you have reached your objective, that you can see the path you have done and especially all those who have helped you in overcoming all the difficulties you have encountered on it.

Today is the international “Thank You” day, therefore there could not be a better time in which to say…thank you mum and dad, you gave me the determination, the strength and the energy I needed; you have always told me that I was able to accomplish every dream of mine notwithstanding the difficulties, you have taught me to believe in myself and you have always been there to support me.

I want to thank my friends, the real and sincere ones.

Especially some of my classmates who made my school experience less stressful, I thank them because they are always there for me: in good and bad times.

They are so important that without them I would feel lost, they are a shoulder to cry on but at the same time someone with whom you can laugh without stopping.

I’m such a lucky girl to be surrounded by such wonderful people, that sometimes I feel like it’s not real, but I’m sure these people will be by my side for the rest of my life and I’m immensely grateful for that. 

People often take for granted the sincerity and loyalty of friends but I have experienced myself that there are people who are not loyal and sincere, so once you find the right friendships you have to keep them close, safe and always thank them.

I say thank you to my friends for all the happy moments we spent together, and to the memories that will always remain in my heart, full of joy and love for them.

I also want to thank my family, everyone who is part of it will never turn their back on me: they are a certainty. 

I thank the year 2020, a difficult year of suffering but also a year of deep reflection on what really matters in life.

I think this poem, written by Carl Dennis, perfectly captures the reason why we should be thankful even for the little things and how small actions that may seem meaningless or insignificant can make a huge difference in someone’s life.

I think most of us can agree that 2020 was not a good year and has taken a toll on our mental health and, in some cases, our physical health. 

Despite that I still find myself being somewhat thankful for some of the things this year has brought with it.

COVID-19 and the consequent quarantine, for example, allowed me to spend more time with my family.

All things considered, I think the most important thing this year has taught me is to appreciate the small things.

Many times during this year I found myself feeling hopeless or in a state of extreme sadness. During those moments what made me feel better were my friends that, by just sending me a message or a funny video or by talking to me on a video chat, much like the earthworms in the poem, involuntarily made it so that happiness and hope could blossom again inside of me.

Despite all the times I tried to express my gratitude to them I don’t think I’ll ever be able to truly explain how much even a simple “hi” from them really means to me or how much, without even knowing it, they helped lift me up in a time of need. 

Maybe, in a way, I don’t want them to find out how much their words, even the simplest ones, truly mean to me, how much they make me feel as if maybe, after all, I am not as worthless as I keep repeating to myself, how much they help me feel as if maybe I do matter to some people.

I feel as though, then, on this day, I should thank my friends, who despite everything are still sticking by my side and, like earthworms unknowingly help flowers grow and blossom, they unknowingly help me grow and blossom through every obstacle.

Because when I was going off the rails of my life and I didn't realize - as if I were hibernating - that my days were taking a turn that made me uncomfortable, you managed without even knowing it to make me find my true desires, what I really wanted.

I am grateful for the year 2020, even if it caused a lot of pain, it also taught people respect for laws, it taught how to respect rules to help people who are in a difficult situation.

We met fifteen years ago and together we created a very strong bond;

Therefore, I thought that the most beautiful thing that she shared with me is the love for cooking, so I decided to cook something very special for her. She loves chocolate and, in my opinion, this ingredient is like a cuddle, a hug, it is a symbol of love.

I do not say enough thank you to my parents, because I think that we are losing the importance of these simple words, we regard them as obvious. Not always to express our gratitude we have to say these words, we can also pass time with these people or prepare something for them in order to make them feel important and  loved.

FOR THE PASTRY:

150 g of butter, 125 g of sugar, one egg, salt, 250 g of flour.

Beat the butter until light and fluffy, add sugar and a little bit of salt. When the ingredients are mixed, add also the flour, working the pastry quickly. Then it has to rest in the fridge for a couple of hours. 

Thereafter roll out the pastry and put it in a baking-pan. Put some beans on the pie, so that it would not puff up and bake it at 180° for about 15/20 minutes.

FOR THE CHOCOLATE CREAM

Two egg yolks, 100 g of sugar, 200 g of dark chocolate, one glass of milk.

 Mix yolks with sugar, in the meantime heat milk on a stove. After that, add milk to egg and sugar and stir. Now put the mixture on the stove and continue stirring, until it reaches 80°C. Next, pour it on cut chocolate and stir until well melted. Leave it in the fridge for 12 hours.

FOR THE COFFEE CREAM

200 g of milk cream, 200 g of white chocolate, two spoons of instant coffee

Heat the cream until it starts to boil, turn off the stove and add instant coffee. After that, pour the cream on the cut white chocolate and mix. Put it in the fridge for 12 hours.

Finally, we are ready to realize the cake. Pour the chocolate cream in the base of the pie. In a bowl, whip the coffee cream and then, with a sac à poche, decorate the cake.

Despite this difficulty, today I want to say thank you to a person that I really appreciate and respect, she is the closest person to me and I want to dedicate this poem to her. Even if we live in the same home and we stay a lot together I don’t thank her often, maybe because i think that is an obvious thing, or because I am embarrassed to show my personal feelings.

I want to highlight how much she did for me every day, from morning to night, she supported me every time I was not in my best mood making me laugh and supporting me. 

It often happens that school or other things in life make me confused and stress me she is always involved, she is there when I need help. 

On the one hand this person sustains me in my path of life, on the other hand she teaches me strictly, making me understand my mistakes. 

She is the best person in my entire life. If you did not understand the addressee, she is my lovely mother.

2020 has been a very difficult year and having them always with me has been crucial,they have been with me in the most difficult moments and have been able to help me, keep me company and distract me, but they also have been with me in the best times and have allowed these to be.

These two words are very simple but so meaningful to receive and also to say. They express gratitude and appreciation to people who have done and keep doing something for you, even though it means for them making big efforts which are not always paid back. 

So I would say thank you to my parents and my family, for the sacrifices they have made to help me, for the huge amount of patience they have, for everything they do to make me a better person.

Furthermore, I would say thank you, in addition to my family, to teachers, to trainers and to every person who has taught me something in life. My gratitude for teachers is particularly heartfelt because of their extraordinary efforts to make online school as good as actual lessons.
