The height of products put at the top shelf of grocery stores become inaccessible to people who are in wheelchairs or even and arm/hand mobility or disability such as TAR syndrome. In this image there are the stairs to go down to the subway station and an escalator to up to back to entrance/exit. This is a barrier for participation for individuals with disabilities because there is no ramp or elevator which will take you down the the subway line. This means that individuals in a wheelchair, leg mobility disability or even temporary disability are unable to use this subway station because there is no way for them to access the subway line. This means they would have to travel to another subway station on that line that states it is accessible. There are multiple ways that this washing machine can be considered a barrier for individuals with disabilities such as the inability or difficulty reaching the top of the washer to pour the laundry detergent in if someone is in a wheelchair. Having to insert small coins as well as moving the machines knobs/butons can be difficult again for those in a wheelchair but also those with hand mobility disabilities who may not have the ability to turn the knobs or hold the small coins and insert them into the machine. It is the easiest and fastest way into the screen from the main road as a pedestrian. The reason this is seen as a barrier for individuals with disabilities is because of the fact that the only option available to enter from the main road is by stairs, there is not accessibility ramp. The only way in which an individual in a wheelchair or any time or leg mobility disability could go to my parent's home is to travel around which adds almost half a kilometer in distance. This is a barrier because if someone with a disability wanted to move onto the street or even visit people, they wold have to consider how this impedes on their participation. Although it is hard to depict in an image, the reason why this crosswalk can be seen as a barrier for people with disabilities is because it does not have the crosswalk signal sound which is an aid cities have been implementing to aid individuals who are visually impaired. These signal sounds help pedestrians who are visually impaired know when it is safe to cross the intersection. Since this intersection is not equipped to do so, it can act as a barrier for those who are visually impaired by increasing the level of danger of cross the street in an extremely busy area but also decreases their ability to be independent.
