<title>The people that were against slavery would spread their messages through books and newspapers. The most popular anti-slavery newspapers was a help to set free one of the slaves to begin his own newspaper. Conductors would use horse-drawn wagons to carry runaways between safe houses.</title>

<title>In terrible conditions, some slaves had to work on a daily basis on tobacco fields. They planted, harvested, binded and stacked all day long. The mistress was lazy and careless for her slaves. Some even were taken after there birth to raise them in slavery. The motivation was: I was born a salve but do not intend to die one.</title>

<title>When slaves escaped, they often used rivers and streams to travel. Rivers and streams are safer to travel on because dogs can&#39;t track their smell and eventually find them. However, not all rivers were easy to cross. Also, slaves that were escaping did not have maps. It was not easy to find their way but one tool that they used to help them navigate were the stars. One particular star, the North Star, guided them as they escaped for Canada. To find the North Star, they located the Little Dipper and the Big Dipper. Between these two constellations, they found the North Star. Another tool that they used when the skies were cloudy or it was daytime was the moss that grew on the tree trunks. It usually grows on the North side of the tree. The moss served as a compass for the salves. It was not always easy to escape from the South. Many traps and snares were set out to capture sometimes hundreds of slaves at a time. Once the slaves were caught, they were returned back to their home in the South. Despite all pain and difficulties, the slaves would try to escape again and again until they succeeded or sold south. Furthermore, in the 1800&#39;s, African Americans fought against slavery in many different ways other than escaping. Some ways were more violent and forceful than others such as poisoning their masters, or even burning crops. Other ways were less harmful such as, taking goods for their masters or simply working slowly. Needless to say, slavery was a very important problem and African Americans fought back in as many ways as they could.</title>

<title>Even in the North , the blacks faced intense discrimination. They were discouraged because they worked in the same place as the whites. There were a lot of Blacks in the big cities and rural areas of the North . So they started to build their own schools, businesses and churches. With all their accomplishments, blacks would not be considered as American citizens until 1866. In 1860, industrialization was very successful in the north. There were more and more factories; they produced textiles, others produced materials like yarn and iron. These industries made the people that lived in streets, into working in the factory. When the slaves were free, they were happy, but there was no one to welcome them. When the slaves escaped, there were posters that describes the runaway of the slaves and got big rewards for their return. Most of the railroads in the USA were in the northern part. There were trains that transported raw materials, goods and people. </title>
