I love the thought that Interactive notebooks are a portfolio for students. They will always be able to refer back to these skills that they have been taught. Besides this, it allows for students to record their thinking and make the notebook their own.

Personalize Learning

I really liked the part of the article that talked about how interactive notebooks can personalize learning. By using them, students are able to form connections of learning and what it means to them. The article also talked about how students "own" their notebook when these lessons have I can statements, goals, and a purpose for learning.

I use grammar and phonics interactive notebook in my classroom. Every page has a title with what they are learning (i.e action verbs) and the I can statement underneath it. With having that, it provides purpose for the lesson and each child's notebook so they can always refer back to the content.

Wasted time coloring, gluing, writing, and cutting

At the beginning of the school year I introduced our snap word interactive notebooks. One of my fears was that my students were going to spend so much time coloring and not the actual task. Also, students work at different paces, so the lesson could take longer than originally planned because some students take longer to cut or write than others.
