I learned that online collaboration is highly motivating for students. While using Kidblog.org for my case study, my students were able to comment back and forth to one another and give feedback to their peers. I have also tried using the same protocol with pencil/paper format and found that my students were significantly less motivated to collaborate with their peers. By incorporating technology to collaborate with peers, I learned that my students prefer and are more successful when collaborating with technology vs. pencil/paper.

I learned the best way to reach our to my community is to use multiple different sources. This year I have reached out to our local community through twitter, remind texting, email, phone calls and in person. The more constant communication I have had with the communities and parents the more buy in I received.

I learned that there are multiple ways that students can learn using e-text. I have incorporated blogging, Google Classroom, B.Y.O.D., all Google apps for education, and PearDeck into my classroom. I have found that through these different softwares, my students were more prepared for SBAC testing and now are more comfortable with reading text online. I think the biggest challenge with this is just giving your students the opportunities that they need to have access to e-text. Many students do not have the exposure of e-text at home so while they are here at school we need to give them the opportunities to learn with e-text.

I learned from our case study that blogging is highly beneficial to student's learning. Initially, I thought blogging would only benefit my students writing, but it did so much more then that. It allowed them to practice how to collaborate using technology and also give constructive feedback to one another. In addition, I learned about the software kidblog.org and found it to be the most user friendly software for my students. I definitely would like to continue to use this with future students.
