Andrea is an 18 year old high school student.  She was assessed for special education at 17 years old and has a slight learning disability (SLD) with low short term memory. Angela has trouble remembering information, does not do well with oral directions, and needs extra support to start long assignments. 

Since Andrea has has an IEP for only one year, she has flunked twice and thinks getting a high school diploma is out of her reach. To make matters worse, she has poor attendance. She has currently missed more than 20% of the all school year. Lack of interest, rides to school, staying up late at work are all reasons for this high %. 

While Andrea does not have complex communication needs and or sever speech and physical impairment, some of the activities given by the presenter can be modified to support Andrea in her classes. AN example, to support in linguistic competence, especially with vocabulary from English class and the reading they have to do, aside from doing notecards, flashcards, and taking notes, they can also create PECS. Understanding complex words does come difficult for Andrea and by using PECS, the meaning of a word/phrase will be presented in a different way. 

To support her mother, Andrea has decided to get a part time job to ease some of the stress on mom. According to Andrea, she is giving her mother atleast 1/2 of her earnings in every pay check. Likewise, one of the other reasons she decided to get a job was because her mom couldn't afford WiFi. As recently as last week, Andrea was able to set up the Wifi in her house and and has stated he wants to pay the bill. 

As for her interest, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family (mother, older sister, and younger brother). She says her family tried to have a movie night at least once a week and they rotate on picking the movie. When she has down time, Andrea likes to nap and do online shopping. She says " I can look at fashion nova for hrs when I am bored."


Personal interest for Andrea is watching make up tutorials in YouTube as well as learning how to do her nails and hair. After high school, one of Andrea's goals is to open up her own business where she can do make up and hair for special events. She says she wants to help "people look good" on their special days whether it be weddings, quinceneras, or other special days.
