The summary of the What is 5 E' paper :

5E' science instruction model is basically a student-led and inquiry-based instruction model. The author says, "The 5E' Model of Science Instruction is the best way to achieve a depth of scientific understanding.". There are 5 stages in the model. They are engagement, exploration, explanation, extension, and evaluation. In the engagement stage, students are presented with unfamiliar phenomena, objects, and/or problems, which will stimulate their curiosity, engage students and connect them with what they already know. In the exploration stage, the teacher will prepare a hands-on activity. Students will work together as a group, investigate a problem, begin to think of some questions, develop hypotheses, and test certain variables. In the explanation stage, the teacher will ask students questions to help them develop explanations for their observations. In the extension stage, students will apply the learning in a new but related way, and they are encouraged to use new academic vocabulary in their new investigation, writing and speaking. In the evaluation stage, students will evaluate their own learning, and teachers will also evaluate students' learning that has taken place through performance, informal, and formal assessments.
