The benefits of, and what I value most about being an evaluator, are twofold. One cannot underestimate the value of a 'fresh pair of eyes', a 'critical friend' or the 'show and tell' that accreditation visits offer schools and to be a key part in that process is a great privilege. And, I am so interested in how other schools function and in what makes them successful and it is not unusual to get a different perspective about certain aspects of education or management having been part of a visit.

As a retiree, I value being able to stay in the world of education and to be able to give back a little to the international schools' community after being a part of it for so many years. As a former head, I always valued accreditation as a means of reflection on our progress and as a helpful guide as to where we were going next. As an evaluator, I always enjoyed visiting other schools and learning from the way different schools approached teaching and learning.

You learn so much from the schools that you visit. The visit is not just a superficial tour/ show and tell--you are able to truly get to know a school across all dimensions of what it is to "be that school." This is always aligned around the school's stated purpose and guiding statements. You get to explore, with the school, how the school is living up to its promise based upon the school's own meta reflections on this. You are able to support the school in its journey. You also get to reflect, with the school, about their aspirational journey. An imagined future and you can help them chart or articulate the first steps to get there. It is inspirational, rewarding, reaffirming and fun.

I have found that the outside perspective of a team evaluator can be eye-opening for the school, and help guide it to becoming a better institution. I've lived it on both the school side and the evaluator side. I know the recommendations that we given to my school by our peer evaluators from CIS changed our views on many of our practices, and helped our teachers and administrators revise their practices to better benefit students. As an evaluator, I love being able to dig in deeply into a school and helping the school in the same way our school community was supported.

It is the most amazing personal professional development & a chance to connect with other experienced educators on both your team and the school. I appreciate the CIS model being collaborative with a chance to validate the school's work towards improvement and offer an additional perspective to the school. It is always informative to learn more about a school's context; the challenges and potentials, and how they might strategise to continue improvement for students and school community.

Every visit is an amazing journey of learning. I love being part of a group that must gel into a team in very short order. I'm constantly awed by the creative and responsive work being done in schools, and I am thrilled to be a contributor to this work.

As an educator I think being an evaluator is incredibly valuable. It opens doors to international experiences, professional growth, and recognition. It offers a deeper insight into diverse educational practices that can enhance institutions. Plus, it's a fantastic way to expand your network. Evaluators actively shape educational standards, ignite innovation, and derive personal fulfillment from enhancing education quality.

I love the professional development opportunities that comes with being an evaluator. You get to see how schools are approaching the same challenges and goals as you are in your school and it brings fresh ideas, insight, and strategies. You can also bring your expertise to assist schools and the conversations around best practice and the creation of new ideas are often the best takeaways.

Schools, particularly good schools, can be insular, inward looking places, and yet no school has the monopoly of good sense! Visiting other schools lets you see how other people and other organisations are addressing the same problems we are all facing. Ther are conversations that really push your thinking....

I really appreciate being part of a peer review system that is focused on improving schools. It is a constructive and positive approach which allows for idea sharing, different perspectives, idea gaining, information gathering and objective opinion. It also connects educators from across the world and helps one reflect on your own practice and school environment.
