Physical features is a part of the characteristics, but one must also look at the common characteristics such as the culture, language, religion, politics, and government of the region. Teachers can teach this theme by showing students different products and goods that move from one city or country to another; the export and import of goods. We have to work with other countries in order to help one another live, which helps build each others economy. We can also teach students about this theme by showing students how technology and transportation has changed over the course of time. The internet, iPads, iPhones, etc are a huge part of society today, thus looking at the movement of the change is key. Students can look at how children got to school 100 or 200 years ago and compare and contrast how they get to school now. We can understand the changes around us by looking at our community and identifying the changes that have occurred over "increments of time, from 2 years to 100 years." Humans have made several changes to the world and not all of them have been positive changes, for example deforestation of the world's forests. Many animals and plants have lost their lives or homes due to humans.
