No one notices what’s happening to her, though, because this type of idolization of “perfect” bodies is so commonplace. This girl wants to be someone that others are jealous of and to have a model’s body. She shrugs off eating a regular diet, rationalizing this with the common phrase that “beauty is pain,” and there’s beauty in everything" means that if beauty is pain, pain is in everything. The girl’s logic is that if everything suffers, why can’t she take a little more suffering for longer? and figuratively fades away to nothing as she loses an unhealthy amount of weight.
