         <description><![CDATA[<div>She was an early leader in the civil rights movements.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; -In 1935, she founded the National Council of Negro Women.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;-In, 1904 she opened a school in Daytona Beach , Florida.<br><br><em>Mary McLeod Bethune was a young African American girl who had to walk several miles to school and back each day.&nbsp; She didn’t mind, though, because she knew that getting a good education was very important.&nbsp; At this time, African Americans were not allowed to go to the same school as whites because of segregation.&nbsp; Bethune thought that everyone deserved a good education, so she started her own school in for African American girls in 1904. &nbsp;</em></div>]]></description>

The NAACP started campaigns which led segregation  out of schools and later protests ended segregation in Florida.<br><br><em>The NAACP was the National  Association for the Advancement of Colored People.  It worked to end segregation.</em></div><div><em><br>The NAACP fought segregation by starting what was called the “Double V” campaign during WWII.  The two “Vs” stood for victory against dictators overseas and victory against racism at home.  The NAACP wanted to bring attention to segregation in hopes of ending it.  They published articles, photos, and drawings in newspapers to promote the campaign.  The NAACP encouraged civil disobedience. </em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Tallahassee Bus Boycott was a period when blacks refuse to use buses and would walk to there destination .After a year officials altered the law and left blacks sit where they wanted too.<br><em>Tallahassee had segregated busses in the early 1950s.  In 1956, after the success of the montgomery bus boycott, two young African Americans refused to give up their bus seats to white passengers.  The women were arrested.  In support of the two women, a local reverend, Charles Kenzie Stelle, helped organize the 1956 boycott of the bus company.  Finally in 1957, a court decided that bussed in Florida could not be segregated.  At last, the bus boycott in Tallahassee were integrated and the boycott ended.</em></div>]]></description>
