The president of the united states, Donald trump, admits that him and his wife, The First Lady, tested positive for the corona virus. He tested positive and kept it a secret because he had just finished downplaying the threat of COVID. His test came back positive just shortly after finding out that his senior aide, Hope Hicks, had the virus after traveling with him majority of the days out of the week. If you didn't know, Donald Trump is 74 which puts him at risk for higher complications of COVID. The diagnosis came in just weeks before the election. Trump and his wife a shown to be fine and healthy now though.

The United States has been through a tough year, now in September of 2020, things don't seem to be heading in the right direction still. With rising COVID cases reaching over 200,000 and businesses increasingly laying off workers, the economy is taking a big hit by those who aren't too optimistic about the turnaround. Not only are workers being laid off, but certain sectors of the business industry aren't being allocated with the necessary funds needed, in order to keep people from losing their jobs. Some sectors can't even handle the wave of demand that's been caused by the effects of COVID; the housing industry is one of them. Though economic numbers surprisingly look good, and the fact that this is the best year on record for the U.S. since 1983, this new era of COVID has made these numbers look deceiving; yet consumers are still remaining upbeat. With that said, the unemployment rate has still risen to 7.9% percent, and though 11 million jobs have been replaced, those numbers are expected to fade as well. Talks within the Congress over stimulus bills have either stalled or been very slow, leading to less commerce put into the economy to stabilize it, leading more jobs and businesses being at risk of loss due to the lack of help coming from the government. Though there are some signs of some positive aspects through this dark time, the country's economy is still teetering a thin line for recovery.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to 860,000, a historically high figure that reflects economic damage from the coronavirus outbreak. Before the pandemic hit the economy, the number signing up for jobless aid had never exceeded 700,000 in a week, even during the depths of the 2007-2009 Great Recession.
The Labor Department said Thursday that U.S. jobless claims fell by 33,000 form the previous week and that 12.6 million are collecting traditional unemployment benefits, compared with just 1.7 million a year ago. The outbreak slammed the U.S. economy in the spring, causing the economy to collapse at a 31.7% annual rate from April through June, by far the worst three months on record. Companies and government agencies slashed 22 million jobs.
