1. What is occurring in this poem? This poem shows how the first rain in a long time is finally coming.

2. Name one example of figurative language and explain what it means. This poem has an example of personification because it states "I am kept company by the sound of my heart drumming" This is personification because people give each other company and a heart is an organ

3. How did Karen Hesse structure this poem (consider the shape, line length, repetition, etc.)? Karen Hesse structured the poem so each line only had about 10 words

4. How does the figurative language & structure contribute to the mood or tone of the story? It shows that she was alone and so quiet that she could hear her heart beating.

How well did Karen Hesse stay true to history? Was anything altered? If so, why do you think that is?

Karen Hesse stayed true to what happened, and from what we saw, nothing was altered beside adding Billie Jo.

3. How effective was this poem?
