         <description><![CDATA[<p>Icebreakers are still an effective way of forming connections in the beginning of the year. However, a basic spit back a favorite fact icebreakers are outdated. They should be creative and fun. Such as splitting the class into groups and having them work together to choose what they would bring to survive on an island. The groups that are formed then could also be kept for a couple of sessions before they move to other groups. -LC, RAWC, BO, BM</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>We think that icebreakers are effective for getting rooms warmed up and a dialogue started. One ice breaker our group isn't super fond of is the "mimic expressions" w/out breaking eye contact. </p><p><br/></p><p>Generally, we prefer answering a specific fun fact, like "fave dessert", and in smaller breakout groups.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Certain icebreakers can be more beneficial than others especially in trying to keep students from disengaging from them. Some students may have trouble opening up to people they don't know too well and this can cause stress to them. Creating icebreakers that are not too personal and are aimed more at fun can be more helpful in having the students feel comfortable in the classroom. These icebreakers can help students find friends along the way as well</p><p>KR, KR, LM, SJ</p>]]></description>
