Pears' Soap Ad-

This is a soap ad from the 1890s. This ad implies that white people should be the ones taking care of black people. For example, if you look in the bottom right corner of the ad, you can observe a white man standing over an African man holding a bar of soap out to the Black man. This also shows that the Europeans thought that the Africans were dirty and they needed to clean them. Lastly in the main photo the man is wearing white which symbolizes cleanliness. This soap advertisement from this time demonstrates how the Europeans thought they were superior to the Africans.
