CHAPTER 1- VISUALIZATION: On page 4 the author forms the setting by describing the weather.

Draw a picture of what YOU THINK the house looks like from the outside.

CHAPTER 2- VISUALIZATION: On page 20 and 23, the author gives great details explainging what Bunnicula looks like. Draw an UP-CLOSE picture of what you think he looks like in his cage.

CHAPTER 3- DETERMINING IMPORTANCE: Write these 5 words in your packet: family, paranoid, loyal, creepy, suspicious.

Then next to each word, explain why the word is important to the book we're reading.

CHAPTER 4- DETERMINING IMPORTANCE: The author purposely made Harold and Chester's personalities very different. Draw a tophat graphic organzier and compare Chester and Harold with at least 3 facts in each box..

CHAPTER 5- INFERENCING AND DRAWING CONCLUSIONS: An inference is a guess made from reading something and putting that something with information you already had (prior knowledge).

Open the document in our "assignments" folder (wsp.8) on our reading website and download it onto your desktop. Read the worksheet with a friend and answer the questions in the Reading Strategy part of your packet.

CHAPTER 6- INFERENCING AND DRAWING CONCLUSIONS: Open the document in our "assignments" folder (wsp.14) on our reading website and download it onto your desktop. Read the worksheet ALONE and answer the questions in the Reading Strategy part of your packet.

CHAPTER 7- SYNTHESIZE: Synthesize means to change your way of thinking or reflect on what you have learned and change the way you do the rest...I want you to synthesize what you've done so far in the novel.

1. Look back at the previous 7 chapters and make sure you're caught up with all your strategies.

2. Put a check in each box if you have completed the chapter activity and have it to prove it!

3. Look back at the boxes that aren't checked and DO THEM. Now is the time to synthesize your work ethic and finish the novel strong! :)

CHAPTER 8- QUESTION: When you read you should be asking yourself questions. The idea of whether vampires are real or not comes to MY mind when reading Bunnicula. That makes me think of vampire bats! For your reading strategy, click on the website below and answer as many of the questions in your packet as possible.

CHAPTER 9- INFER AND DRAW CONCLUSIONS: Now that you have read the story, you are prepared to make conclusions about the characters. Think about how the characters started. What was their personality like? Were they nice, mean, patient, silly, boring, mysterious, etc? Now make a prediction for each character's future. There is not a wrong answer as long as you back up WHY you chose that prediction and explain WHAT from the text helped you figure this out.

READING SKILL

CHAPTER 1- NARRATIVE ELEMENTS: First rewrite and complete these sentences from the text. Second draw a picture to go under each sentence in your packet. I gave you page numbers to help you get started.

THAT MEANS 5 SENTENCES WTH 5 PICTURES!

In our family, everyone treats everyone else _____________. (p.7)

Mr. Monroe is a ________________. (p.7)

Mrs. Monroe is a _______________. (p.7)

Pete on the other hand doesn't believe in _______________. (p.11)

Chester was still sitting by the closed kitchen door _________________________. (p.17)

CHAPTER 2- CAUSE AND EFFECT: Draw four cause and effect boxes like the ones below.

Then fill in the statements below in the correct boxes and the missing cause or effect.

1. cause-Chester was given to Mr. Monroe with 2 volumes of G.K. Chesterton

    effect- ???

2. cause- ???

effect- Chester got up and looked out the window.

Last, create 2 more of your own in the last 2 boxes..

CHAPTER 3- FACT AND OPINION: Copy these 3 sentences into your packet.

1. Chester was very tired.

2. Harold is a funny dog.

3. Bunnicula is sneaky.

Then write an F next to the sentence if you think it's a fact or an O next to the sentence if you think it's an opinion.

Last, if it's a fact write the page number it can be found on. If it's an opinion underline the strongest opinion word from the sentence.

CHAPTER 4: FACT AND OPINION: Write 1 fact and 1 opinion about each of the following characters:

Bunnicula: FACT_

                    OPINION_

Harold: FACT_

               OPINION_

Chester: FACT_

                 OPINION_

CHAPTER 5: CONTEXT CLUES: Look on pages 55 and 61 and find the 2 words I've selected. Reread the sentences that they're in. Take a guess at what you think the words mean BASED ON THE CONTEXT CLUES (hints) surrounding them. ***You may even need to reread the sentences before and after the sentence that the word is in. Then finish the sentence in the proof box in your packet.

CHAPTER 6: HOMOPHONES: Go out in the hall with your group. Take your packet and the bag of pears with you. As a team, match up the homophones (words that sound the same but have different meanings) and record the pairs on your packet.

CHAPTER 7: REREAD: This means looking back and making sure you understand what's going on. Look back at your packet/worksheets and pick 1 chapter that you aren't sure you read carefully and REREAD it. Then log the chapter and a short summary in your packet.

CHAPTER 8: GATHERING AND INTERPRETING INFORMATION: You are going to take the information you gathered in your reading strategy center, and create a cartoon bat in your packet. Your bat needs to speak or somehow present the information about himself. I'm giving you CREATIVE FREEDOM to make this box entertaining but informative. Coloring is required.

CHAPTER 9: CAUSE AND EFFECT: Sometimes one cause can have more than effect. If the cause is "THE SUN COMES OUT", lots of effects can happen "SNOW MELTS, BIRDS COME OUT, FLOWERS BLOOM, THE DAYS STARTS, ETC.". And sometimes lots of causes can have the same effect. If the effect is "I ACED MY SPELLING TEST", the causes could be "I STUDIED, I ALREADY KNEW THE WORDS, I HAD GOOD LUCK, I CHEATED, ETC." Complete the graphic organizers in your packet using causes and effects from the text.
