Bennett teachers believe in the value of appropriate homework. Often, through homework, students extend their learning, practice valuable skills and participate in family-team efforts. Homework helps to develop a sense of responsibility in the students and prepares the students to be accountable in their future world. Homework will have a purpose and connection to the classroom program. Complete and detailed information regarding grade-level homework expectations will be delivered by your child’s classroom teacher.

I note the freedom (for students, educators and families) and flexibility allowed in the Wilburton Handbook. Also, see how there is an expectation/reminder that learning at home is essential and that it takes place at home in varied forms.

If you put "talk to your student's teacher " in a school wide statement about homework, it opens too much choice which defeats the purpose of having a school wide stance.

One thing I heard Dusty say at our PD today was that as a parent he appreciates his kids bringing homework home because it is a connection to what is happening in the classroom . He said that "if I see my kid is doing a math sheet easily than I know he's doing good in math". I think it might be important to include a sentence pertaining to this idea because often times many in our parent community thinks if their child does homework quickly that must mean they need a lot of challenges. We need to communicate that easy homework is not a bad thing it just means that your student is doing well.
