2. I think, there are two villain in the film and both of them are scary. But Hannibal seems the creepier on the two. He can just control his inner desires to kill human. He will listen to your story and used it to defeat you. He don't need to kill you right away but by using your weakness is his way. At the end of the film, he had conversation with Sterling and he talks about the lamb and if I were Sterling, it really creeps me out.
3. Gun: it symbolizes masculity. But it takes over by Sterling. She was an FBI trainee and she used it to kill Buffalo causing him to death. 
Death's-head hawkmoth: Buffalo Bill has an obsession with moths because they represent what he wants for himself. Moth begins as caterpillars, but then enter a cocoon and emerge as fully formed moth. He is a man who wants to become a woman, but denied a sex change operation. He murders women and collects their skin to create a woman suit-- a cocoon for himself to become a woman.

·        Hannibal Lecter is one of the character who likes to kill people and sometimes kill people close to them, Lecter a psychiatrist has killed patients before just like Bill they do weird things with human flesh. 2. HOW WOULD SITUATE A PSYCHOLOGICAL THEORY IN THE FILM “THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS”? 

The Psychological theory in the Silence of the Lambs starts with a scene where it shows a woman, Clarice Starling, running through a type of training course. She's then called into Jack Crawford's office and told to go and talk to a psychopath who was once a famous psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. He has been know as "Hannibal the Cannibal" since he became a murder and ate parts of his victims. Crawford uses Starling to get information from Lecter about the ongoing case of "Buffalo Bill" in hope they can catch him before killing another one of his victims. 

Projective Measures
 Projective measures is where you would have someone tell you a story and you would watch them to see if they reveal anything. Lecter has a "quid pro qo" session with Starling and that's how he learns of her father and her living with her aunt on a ranch with sheep and with him being a psychiatrist, he notices subtle things that she does unconsciously.

 Hannibal Lecter seems to have antisocial personality disorder. Antisocial personality disorder is where you behave socially wrong, you are deceitful, and irresponsible. Now I don't believe Lecter was/is irresponsible, but I do believe the other things are true about him. He behaved wrong socially by eating parts of his victims, and he is deceitful by giving wrong names, using riddles as answers, and a few other

·     lamb—beautiful, innocent and helpless—walking through a world full of evil, with men like Hannibal and Buffalo Bill waiting to slaughter her. Can she survive? Who will nurture and  protect her? Ironically, it is  slaughterer—Hannibal—who is also in part her protector here, although ultimately she must overcome her fears and protect herself. Her “fear” is the fear of failure, which leads to self doubt; she overcomes it by following her instincts and succeeding where her fellow agents fail.

1. Alter analytical psychological condition of the three main characters in the novel in a purpose to compare their psychological development, the sublimation in particular. the writer can find the traumatic experience and about kinds of self-defense mechanism. Buffalo Bill. however can show his work in sewing. His ability in sewing can be classified into the form of sublimation. because sublimation itself is the process of changing the impulse in the form of anxiety. anger, sadness. regret or another guilty feeling into positive and productive outcome in which society believe as something on accord or valuable. 

 Clarice Starling an FBI trainee suffers from Post Traumatic Disorder when she as a child experienced seeing the lambs getting killed. From that day onwards she always had nightmares about the lambs. She feels that is she can save Catherin she can be free from guilt. 























2. The film, The Silence of the Lambs, which follows closely the novel by Thomas Harris, is about a young woman in training with the FBI, Clarise Starling, who becomes involved in the pursuit of a serial killer who skins his female victims.  In order to get ideas about the serial killer, she is sent to interrogate another serial killer in a state prison, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.  He is a psychiatrist who was convicted of having killed and cannibalized patients.  Dr. Lecter is kept under extraordinary security measures because of his inventive intelligence, strength and ferocity combined with his penchant for mutilating careless attendants with his teeth.  The physical action of the film centers around the search for the serial killer, referred to as “Buffalo Bill,” but the emotional action centers around four face to face verbal confrontations between Clarise Starling and Dr. Lecter.

With a cannibalistic psychiatrist as its central character, it is not surprising that we should look to this film for fantasies about the earliest, oral phase of development, in which sucking and, later, biting are the central focus of the infant’s pleasure.  Freud and other early psychoanalysts, particularly Melanie Klein, wrote about an infantile fantasy that by swallowing or eating another creature or person, we become like them (an early version of “you are what you eat”).  In Totem and Taboo, (1913) he wrote about primitive tribes that worshipped an animal, the “totem”, and would eat the animal in a ritual meal in order to take on its powerful characteristics.  In Mourning and Melancholia (1917), Freud suggested that mourners and some depressed patients unconsciously fantasize that they have taken in a valued person who has been lost to them through death or for some other reason.  He pointed out that mourners frequently adopt some characteristics of the deceased and that depressed people often attack themselves with reproaches that would better fit a valued person who has been lost to them in some way.  Freud speculated that one of the child’s earliest means of loving and holding onto a loved object was by incorporating the object, devouring it in fantasy in order to have the object and its desirable qualities inside itself.

2.  The  psychological theory in the movie was evidently seen on the characters of  Hannibal and Buffalo somehow on Clarice also. Hannibal and Buffalo are serial killers and feels no empathy about murdering and the feelings of other people. Both of them had a past that maybe led to these disorders. Hannibal’s parents during WW2 were killed and his sister  was used for food when there is shortage that time on the other hand Buffalo underwent an abusive childhood but it’s not stated clearly. Hannibal and Buffalo shows a lot of wrongdoing which is obviously not a doings of a normal person specifically murdering people without regretting it and skinning women for the sake of himself. 

3.   Gun :   Clarice she is an FBI trainee and we all know that that kind of work is usually for men and gun symbolize as gender is demoted.
 Lotion when Buffalo forced  his victims to use it before he skins them. It promotes gender role since lotions are commonly used by women.
 Lipstick as used by Buffalo since he wants to become/ looks like a girl he uses some make up since make up is a symbol for women the gender is demoted.

2. Since one of the characters in the film specifically Buffalo Bill, is mentally- ill, I can say that this is connected to a psychological theory. He became like that because of his traumatic childhood and systematic abuse. He wants to be a woman but since he is mentally- ill, he kills women and eventually take- off their skin and put it to his body as a “woman suit”. He also doesn’t care about the people he kills for the sake of his happiness. Because of being traumatized during his childhood, he kept on doing that thing.

Because he wants to be a woman, he used or do some things that only woman does.  When we say Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by pattern of excessive attention seeking, emotion instability, and self-dramatization. Seeking to become a woman and targeting on a senator’s daughter shows his desire for complete attention.
 
 Transvestic fetishism is known as cross-dressing.Buffalo Bills enjoyed makeup and dressing up in women’s cloth. He had entire secret basement filled with women clothing including the one that he was making out of victims’ skin. 
 
 
 Transsexualism is remarked by strong and persistent cross-gender identification and persistent discomfort with one’s biological sex or inappropriateness in the gender role of that sex.
 
 Autogynephilic type—attracted to oneself as a female. He always fantasized himself as a female, one example could be when he was dancing with his penis tucked between his legs and posed for the camera.

As a child, Clarice took action by kidnapping the lamb to save it from being slaughtered; she actively joined the FBI to go after killers, like the ones who killed her father; encountering Buffalo Bill, she tries to apprehend him herself.The FBI is concerned with its discovery of an increasing number of victims and the progress it is making toward locating Buffalo Bill; Clarice Starling is concerned with her progress as an FBI trainee; Buffalo Bill is concerned with the progress of his “suit of skin”;  Hannibal Lecter is concerned with the progress being made toward better accommodations and escape.Members of society cannot feel secure with serial killers on the loose, and expect the FBI to remove that threat.  No amount of security, even steel bars and plexiglass walls, seems to protect society, and especially Dr. Chilton, from Hannibal Lecter.  Clarice’s sense of security as a child was destroyed by her father’s death and seeing and hearing lambs slaughtered.
Twenty-five years on, Clarice Starling remains one of Hollywood’s most memorable female protagonists. But she’s also a reminder of just how timid mainstream film can be.

Serial killer Buffalo Bill wants to become a woman by sewing himself DRESS made out of his female victims’ skins. He’s a kind of nightmare image of Clarice herself, who is trying to shed her femininity in the workplace and model herself after her deceased policeman father.The movie adores Lecter in all his cannibalistic evil and hyperbolic cultured intelligence. And so it gives him continued power over its heroine.Lecter acts as a sort of twist FATHER figure to Clarice throughout the film, feeding her hints and leads so that she can track down her quarry. Despite her intelligence and her ambition, Silence of the Lambs puts Clarice in the position of trading on her youth and her attractiveness. She solves the case not just because of her initiative or drive, but because Lecter likes her. He is the director of his own film, sending her here and there across the screen with his calculating, eager eyes. Men act threateningly towards women:  Miggs makes threatening gestures towards Clarice, which she ignores and he follows through by attacking her.  Buffalo Bill threatens the Senator’s daughter with the hose if she doesn’t use the skin cream.  He threatens Clarice by cocking his GUN, and she responds by shooting him.

Silence of the Lambs Symbol
Dr Lecter tells Clarice that when she manages to identify Buffalo Bill and prevent him from killing anyone else, the screaming of the lambs in her dreams will stop and their silence will symbolize the release of her guilt; she will have regained her power and that is why she will not hear them anymore. The silence of the lambs will symbolize that no more women will go to Buffalo Bill like lambs to the slaughter.
Women's Skin Symbol
Buffalo Bill identifies as a woman and so to him the act of wearing the skin of his female victims is a symbol of putting on their womanhood and becoming a woman. Although the clothing he wears gives him the appearance of femininity this symbolizes to him the act of pretending to be female; wearing the skin of a woman symbolizes his actually becoming one.
Buffalo Bill's Nickname Symbol
Wild Bill Cody, aka Buffalo Bill, was renowned for killing and skimming his prey and this is also what the unidentified serial killer does to the women he kidnaps. The nickname that has been given to him, Buffalo Bill, is a symbol of this modus operandi and of the brutal way in which he hunts, kills and skins his victims.

Gun -  it is being used to promote the role of a policeman, and also in the film it used by a woman to promote the essence of the characters role. It is being used by the men that's why it is demoted by the character clarice, but it is being promoted in the situation where in it is being used by the FBI agents.

I can situate the a psychological theory in the film by means of analyzing and focusing on the characters mind set, the whole story is actually a product of different minds, where in all the characters were producing different psyche to make the story more intense and more interesting. Our mind has an ability to think and it's the source of our actions. So whatever you think or whatever you have in your mind will happen to you, just like in the film, they have thought of their situation and they received the consequence. I've seen different psyches in the film the id which is the abnormality of a mind through actions which also express the limitless pursuance of something. And also the ego was presented in the film by the protagonist by balancing her mind to the situation she has. And the superego which is internal feeling of someone not to do something, and this film is really interesting one because of the combination of the psychological theory and feminist theory.

Hannibal Lecter - he is a doctor particularly psychiatrist, who was imprison because of murder, he actually killed people by eating them, that was the result of his psychological disposition, he's so intelligent, he can predict, and analyze mind set of other people by means of conveying with them. 

Clarice Starling - She is a trainee in the academe of the FBI, she serves as a detective, in solving the cases of killing women by the serial killer buffalo bill. She has a childhood trauma when her father died and also her mother. She stayed in her cousin's house and stayed there briefly and she runaway immediately because of some reason, that's why her mind set was of anxiety and her situation is very mysterious, but she is good in her path being a detective.

-  The Silence of the Lambs written by Thomas Harris was a great story where he shows the psychological situation of a person. The characters have different psychological disorder that made them act base of their role. For example, Buffalo Bill and Dr. Hannibal, they are not normal. They are manipulative and loves to kill people. Their past experiences affects their psychological situation, and their pyschological situation affects their action that they are doing. The story shows how such psychological situation affects the life and action of a person.

She is also a brave woman in a way that she interviewed the most wanted prisoner who is a Lecter. She is also a physically strong woman and she is an intelligent girl through out his investigation. She is smart when it comes in connecting clues. She is also a caring person because he somehow help Lecter and she thinks of her family even. 
Buffalo Bill-Buffalo Bill on the other handis a killer. He kills a lot of girls. It is obvious that Bill has an insecurities in the other girls that made him to his condition. He also psychopath. He killed the girls, He kidnapped and skinned them for his own pleasure. It is obvious that he is insane and nothing to do but to sew faces. He also let one of his victim to swallow a caterpillar just for its silence and to do what he want to do. But in the end, Starling made her mission successful and that Bill was imprisoned. 
2. Gender symbols. 
Symbol used to utilize the text, first is the Gun used by Starling. It promotes that even she is a girl, she is eligible to use that because she is knowledgeable enough and she is strong like a man who uses guns. She is also in a job of a man which is an investigator it obviously shows that gender doesn't define her strength and weaknesses. Lecter uses a hairpin that he uses in order for him to ecape. And that hairpin is not only use by woman for them to be comfortable but for Lecter to get his freedom. At last is the Make up and sewing machine used by Bill, because this things he used is the things that makes him happy and with that he gets his pleasure. We can say that he overcome his loveliness and he is confident with that.

2. The Silence of the Lamb is a film about a young woman named Clarise Starling an FBI trainee who is  involved in the case of the notorious killer Buffalo Bill. He used to remove the skin of his victim to make a cloth out of it. Inorder for Clarisse to cracked the investigation she need to gain some information to another serial killer who is Hannibal Lecter. Hannibal Lecter is a doctor, he is kept under the extra ordinary security measure because of his intellegence and strength that he may use to harm other. Its major theme is cannibalism. In the study of  Freud sucking or oral phase of development is the central focus of infants pleasure. Since both Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill has a traumatic experience during their childhood we can somehow say that they didn't successfuly achieve this stage back then. Another traumatic experience that they encountered is the death of their love once that leads them to depression. Depression is the root of their psychological state which is being psychopath.  Aside from that Freud point out that people who's trying to eat or swallow another person they think that they can be like time. Buffalo Bill is a trans gender but he fails to have a sex change. Imitating the role of a woman is one of his character in the story. He gets pleasure in designing dresses that is made in woman's skin.

Clarice then went to stay with her uncle on a farm, but soon ran away. She is a student at the FBI Academy. She hopes to join the Behavioral Science Unit as a psychological investigator. Clarice is a fresh new recruit who is smart and hard working. That dedication is the reason why she is tasked to interview Hannibal Lecter, an imprisoned killer whose very intelligent. Hannibal has information about Buffalo Bill, a serial killer, and Clarice must win his cooperation for the case. Clarice don't want to give her personal information to Hannibal Lecter. Buffalo Bill- His real name in the story is Jame Gumb. He is a serial killer who brutally kill his victims his targets are young women. He is trans-gendered and had tried unsuccessfully in the past to have sex-change operation. His frustration and confusion regarding his own gender identity makes his behave like a psychopath. Moreover, similar to Lecter, Gumb has also had a traumatic childhood. His alcoholic mother abandoned him when he was only two years old. Hannibal Lecter was a forensic psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. Lecter was first an antagonist at the first novel and later became a protagonist on the third one. Hannibal Lecter’s psychological problems began with the murder of his sister, this triggered his post-traumatic stress disorder. Lecter isolates himself from others like in the orphanage where he was seen as a loner and an outcast, this may have led to him feeling disconnected with others- demonstrated by the fact that he does not even speak to them. So, we can say that he really is an anti-social. 
Clarice starling is an FBI trainee, she experienced post traumatic disorder, she always had a nightmare because she had witnessed the killings of those lambs that appears in her dreams. 
Buffalo Bill experienced a lot of bad things in life, he does not know his biological father and even her own mother left him, he lives in the orphanage and he is good in sewing. 

2) If I were to situate the psychological theory in the film "The silence of lambs" is that it is obvious. Because when we say psychological theory it has something to do with how an individual or a person act in a certain situation or it has something to do  with the psychological disposition of a person- the behavior, way of thinking, wrong doing. Where in we can witnessed all in the film, they kill people because they are under or being dominated by what they have been through. For example is that the character of Hannibal lecter, he kills people and eat them afterwards, they are instances that he serves it for dinner, and the reason why hannibal did that is because he is under his traumatic experienced which he had witnessed by his naked eye how his sister is being cannibalized and because of that experience Hannibal also became a cannibal since he is hauted by memories of the past.

1. The psychological disposition of Hannibal Lecter is a psychopath who is very clever in his field (psychiatry). He is fond of making others feel and remember their worst scenarios in life like what he did to Clarice Starling. Clarice Starling has a trauma from the lambs that she was not able to save way back in her childhood she thinks that if she will be able to save the last victim of the buffalo bill case, then she may not have to be guilty anymore. Lastly, Buffalo bill was the serial killer in the movie. He loves to get women's skin because for him it gives him excitement and he uses it to make himself a woman.

2. In the movie, the personality principles may be related. The ID principle (pleasure principle) can be seen on how buffalo bill kills his victim because through killing and getting the skins of woman makes him satisfied especially when he uses it to make himself a woman physically. The super ego is included as well. In the movie, Clarice Starling seeks for justice for all the victims of the case. Meaning, the moral that she has became her strength to solve the case of buffalo bill.

(1) The gun made the character of Clarice Starling tough because she was able to do the usual job of a man which is being a police officer and also she was the one who ended the buffalo bill case. (2) The women skins made the gender role of women demoted because this is used by a male character who is the killer in the movie (Buffalo Bill). (3) The sewing machine is included because it was part of Buffalo's way of connecting the women's skins to make himself a woman. In here, he feels like he reached his fantasy being a woman.(4) The lipstick because it was used by a man in the movie.

1. Hannibal Lecter
He is a pure psychopath, a cannibal who eats multiple people, he enjoy making other people feel uncomfortable, and he also find it interesting by hearing unpleasant memories and he also don't mind if he kill other people.

Clarisse Starling
She has a post traumatic stress disorder due to nightmare or night terror, she is an FBI agent who saved catherine from buffalo bill's hand.

Buffalo Bill
He is a homosexual who aims to be a woman. he skins every female victim and makes them lotion their skin befor being killed and he also puts an insect inside the throat his victim. he is a horrible killer!



2. The movie silence of the lamb has a theme of where the characters there has a various psychological issues or problems which has something to do with the psychological theory where in it relates to the study of the mind. In that theory, it emphasizes the somehow bad behavior or how people think which affects the people and society. like what was being shown in the film the story focuses on how they solved certain crime made by a psychopath who is buffalo bill. A person with psychological disorder can somehow become insensitive, selfish, aggressive and much worst if it became dangerous to the point that they don't mind of hurting or killing people.

- Gun, this gun was being used by Clarice. since she is an FBI agent and is criminology graduate she is said to be a policewoman. her profession shows that even if she's a woman, she can still be able to do men's job where in fact she has a huge contribution to them because she's the one who saved catherine and killed buffalo bill. it simply shows that, even woman can do what man can do. in fact we are sometimes way better than them.

- Lipstick, this one was being used by buffalo bill. if a guys uses lipstick and tries to put some make ups obviously his role there is a gay.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist, imprisoned for being a serial killer who cannibalized his victims. He has a desire to eat another human. The parents of Hannibal was killed by burglars despite of that from no support or treatment, this caused him to exhibit Anti social personality disorder. People with this disorder have no regard for others and no care for what is considered right and wrong in our society. He antagonizes people with harsh judgement, to get what he wants and extremely egocentric.
Buffalo bill, has undegone trauma and bad experiences through his life. Bill has also the anti social personality disorder, displaying a same lacks of emphathy for his victims. He also likely had Gender identity disorder, as shown in his dance scene where he puts on make up etc. 
Clarice Starling, young intelligent FBI trainee, has been sent to the Baltimore state hospital for the criminally insane to interview an inmate, Dr. Hannibal "the cannibal" Lecter, a brilliant renowned psychiatrist turned infamous psychopathic serial killer. 

2. How would you situate a psychological theory in the film 'Silence of the Lambs'?
Psychological theory is the association of personality, learning and criminal behavior that shows in the film. The film reflects an increased willingness to accept that there is evil within and an increased willingness to look at humankind in general and, hopefully, ourselves in particular. Doctor Lecter is not a foreigner: He is one of us, one whose profession is to help us look at ourselves which he does in the movie. It shows the underlying and complex desires that people try to hide. It mainly studies the unconscious through mental state, sexuality, desire and dreams.

-Buffalo shows gender symbolizes by utilizing the lipstick of the women and also the stripped skins of his womens victim.
-Gun, it symbolizes or represent the male character or masculity. But in the film Clarice sterling demoted the gender in the film by using and utilizing it that she is trying to act like a man.

Buffalo bill- he is also a serial killer and a psychopath but unlike hannibal he usually kidnap overweight women, then starve them before murdering them, which he would fashion their skin into a "woman suit" for him to wear.

Clarice Starling- is an FBI trainee in the silence of the lamb. She is direct, honest, fearless, determined—and smart enough to know when she should be scared spitless. She agrees to tangle with one of the most violent, brilliant, and dangerous criminals ever to practice psychiatry which is hannibal and buffalo bill.


2. It is situated to a psychoanalytic theory when Starling an FBI trainee who becomes involved in the pursuit of serial killer who skins his female victims. In order for her to get the ideas about the serial killer, She has to interrogate another serial killer which is Dr. Hannibal Lecter who acts as a vicious psychopathic murderer which in the entire story becomes a mentor of Starling. He is the one who keeps on giving clues to Clarice just to find Buffalo Bill yet Dr. Hannibal knows where buffalo bill in the first place. Buffalo Bill and Hannibal was both psychopath and serial killer. But Dr. Hannibal doesn’t have any desire to become like his victim just what like buffalo bill do. 

3. Gun- Clarice Starling is an FBI  trainee. Who uses the gun. But we know that men usually the one who uses gun and it was also one of their representation
Lipstick- in the movie “Silence of the lamb” Buffalo Bill uses lipstick. But we all know that lipstick is typically used by all women.
Lotion- we know that lotion are used by women in order for our skin to remain smooth. Lotion was also used in the story “silence of the lamb”

It is situated in psychoanalytic theory because  based on the film the two characters have a mental and psychological problem that is happening in their life`activity because there are events that has a great effect on their childhood,that create a change in their minds about their revenge,identity,personality traits,activities,behavior that lead them to a mental illness or psychological disorder and defined by a combination of how they behave, feel, perceive, or think.
