The real cause of this conflict is the different religions that branched off from the same origin. As an against-war activist, Lennon did include the conflict in the song to raise people's awareness.

Last but not least, possessions, the "war" between the rich and the poor. Some people try to own more, while others have bare minimum to live on. The gap gets bigger: the rich become richer, the poor have nothing left. Through Imagine, the "Smart Beatle" wanted to remind people to care for each other instead of their own greed.

Vietnam war, a remarkable part of history for both countries involved, the United States and Vietnam. Vietnam war happened specifically between the North Vietnam, which was
supported by its communist allies, and South Vietnam, backed by the anti-communist United States. The war had caused lots of death from both sides. There had been many protests against the war, one of which Lennon had greatly contributed.
