My biggest takeaway from this book is that my students can be independent. I love the I charts and my students love discussing them and talking about the reasoning behind them. I am hoping to implement Daily 3 in my classroom soon. I have seen how great the effects of Daily 5 are with my students and I cannot wait to have that in Math!

-Macy Martin

There are several things that I love about the Daily 5. It makes it easier to manage the classroom, especially when I am pulling small groups. When students have a stamina goal for their center, they do their best to meet the expectations that you set them. That gives you time to work really well with your group. Furthermore, it allows the students in their center to learn more from their reading as they can focus better.

The next thing for me is to set my expectations higher. I have been saying lately that I want to go back to the beginning of the year to revamp my management system with higher expectations for the students. I believe that it would help the students to focus if I were to do this. Ms. Wilkins advised that I do just that, go back and overhaul my system if I don't like it.

--Cary

My biggest take aways from this book were that this truly teaches student independence and has a huge impact on classroom management. Students are in charge of their learning and allows them to be organized not only in literacy but in other content areas as well. My next steps are to continue with stamina in literacy and math as well as continue to organize and create new ways to do things for math and literacy. I love the checklist idea and getting my students to track where they have been throughout the week. I love the math daily 3 and the thought process behind it for our students. I will continue to create math binders and organize game pieces and other math manipulative. I think that the daily 5 overall has such great components for every subject and I look forward to using more every day in my classroom -Katiera

My favorite thing about Daily 5 is that students learn independence. Being that I am in kindergarten, I know it will take longer to get there, but we are working on it.

The biggest thing I have taken away from the Daily 5 is that is important to teach independence to help with classroom management. Once the students have reached the level independence it helps with pulling small groups. I really like the way the I-charts are available to show students what is expected.
