"Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I chose this because I think everyone's heard it before. During the Vietnam War, soldiers were drafted, but wealthy families were able to get their sons out of the draft in different ways. It also points out that much of American society did NOT support this war at all. This song was advocating change in the US's foreign policy--to get out of Vietnam.

"The Principal" by Melanie Martinez. I chose this because I listen to this artists music often. In the song they talk about the presidents and governments way of hurting the citizens of the USA. Saying that they're not listening to what the people want and need, that they're killing children, and that they care more about money and fame than the well being of people.

"Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson. I chose this song because he takes a different approach to activism by asking people to change themselves instead of trying to influence others. In the song, Michael says "If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change." Also, at the beginning of the song, he talks a little bit about not disregarding other people who are in need; "I see the kids in the street with not enough to eat. Who am I, to be blind pretending not to see their needs?"

On April 24, 2000, 50 Cent was shot nine times by a gunman outside his grandmother's former home in his South Jamaica, Queens neighborhood. The bullets hit his hand, arm, hip, both legs, chest and left cheek, shattering his right femur. In this song the rapper relives that fateful day and other painful moments in his life.
