They loved seeing each other contribute in "real time".  They figured out lots of the features pretty quickly. (one group embedded a Youtube video. Lots used the animation feature for text. Hey Jordan!  Can we use your tutorials with students?? We always invite learners "into" the slide deck and design it with multiple learning pathways in mind. Here's an example of a slide deck on GSuite Essentials that we used during the Summer Pro-D with that very approach:

Like Jordan said, Slides do not need to be used in a linear format either. If students are offered some structures, Slides can easily be used to create an easy to use e-portfolio, where students can link artifacts and reflections of learning. The scope can be large or small...even one unit, where students are able to provide evidence of learning.

My students have been learning about biomes for some time now and I am using Google Slides to provide them with an opportunity to 'show what they know.' My students have been divided up into six groups of five and they are each responsible for completing two slides within the presentation (we have already co-constructed all of the criteria for each part of the assignment). They are each also required to create a reflection statement about their learning. I have also built in a requirement for them to review their group mates' slides and provide feedback using the comment feature. I have also put in an additional 'Resources' slide with some of the online resources that we have been using in our learning up to this point. I love that I can easily embed links and videos so seamlessly into Slides. Honestly, if it had the necessary interactive features that SmartNotebook has, I would be switching to it as my main lesson delivery platform. We start this Slides project next week, so hopefully it will all go well and if not, we'll all learn from it together.
