What I learned from the discussion is that the past can influence the literary piece itself. The work may be for entertainment, but it utilizes tackling historical events. An example is Apo on the Wall by BJ Patino. This work pictured life during the Martial Law. If you don't have any knowledge about what martial law is, you will not understand and appreciate the work. Another one is that the life and experiences of an author deeply impact the outcome of a work. In writing, you can't deny that you will input some of your experiences and even opinions that are based on what you have experienced.

Through the discussion, my view of literature interpretation has expanded. I’ve realized that having different literary approaches is significant when it comes to analyzing various literary works. There are many different interpretations of these literary pieces that we’re unable to see due to limited knowledge in ways of how to observe the said literary pieces. Having these literary approaches, such as the historical and biographical approaches, is beneficial to the readers as well as the authors of a literary work. The readers are able to fully understand writings, and the authors’ intentions and the message that they want to evoke through their work is more appreciated.

I learned how authors incorporate their experiences into their works, because technically speaking, it is a reflection of who they are. It somehow serves as a sandbox for the authors to say their grudges, hidden feelings, and regrets without harming others and as well themselves. One main thing I learned from this topic is to apply the historical and biographical approach when needed in order to fully realize the essence and concept of a literary piece. Delving into this approach can expand the readers horizon and perspective when reading a piece. As well as avoid pre-conceived misinterpretations to the actual context of the text because you are enlightened by the factual existing information about the piece through the history and author’s point of view.
