I learnt that only one prisoner ever successfully escaped
I learnt that they quit growing sugarcane because it got too long and any prisoner could hide in it.
I learnt that there were four punishments, the first you would lose your indulgences, second you would do shot drill, third you got the cat o nine tails and then...the BLACK HOLE.
I learnt that at the end of the building which the prisoners slept in there was a night water who had special boots to listen to plans of escape from prisoners.
St Helena wasn't for convicts it was for normal prisoners from the mainland when the Brisbane jails started overflowing.
They stored trees on ships in case your mast broke
At one point of time the governors sent all the women and children back to the mainland because there wasn't enough space.
There was a tramway around the island.
They built their buildings from beachrock  on the island
