Both of them were merely children when police saw them as a threat and decided to shoot them. Along with this, after Tamir's killing, police restrained his sister who was trying to go help him, and in the book, the boy's mom tries to help him but is restrained by police. Jerome's neighborhood feels different than mine because I usually don't notice drug dealers and meth labs around like he did. Some differences that occurred in my life was that I had to travel a longer distance than Jerome. My neighborhood had a lot of sketchy things but not as bad as Jerome's. My neighborhood is different from the neighborhood Jerome lives in because it is a lot safer since not as many incidents happen in my area. But is it similar in ways for other parts of the city/neighborhood because there are definitely sketchy areas that I have to look out for walking around. It’s hard to answer because I don’t know enough about what happened, and why Jerome was shot. About their neighborhood, Jerome’s grandmother says “in this neighborhood, getting a child to adulthood is perilous.”  Perilous means risky/dangerous.  This is very different from my neighborhood because mine is not risky or dangerous, as mine is always peaceful.  But his is clearly the exact opposite.  That must make him feel scared.  Maybe that is why the grandmother is worried about Jerome. I just can’t imagine being in that rough of a neighborhood every single day.          I think the author begins with Jerome’s death because maybe it would make us think about why he died, and wonder what happened.
