Ms. Daughenbaugh,

In reading your segment concerning trends of increased social media use and its effects on mental health, I began to consider the implications of the same on an individual's perception of their body image and its associated effects. Studies reveal constant exposure to messages and images via social media causes individual to rely on the source for lifestyle cues (Perloff, 2014). This in turn has caused college aged women to develop body image disturbance issues (Perfloff, 2014), idealizing the filtered or surgically altered images of women, and the attention they receive. What interventions/programming opportunities can colleges employ to help combat the negative impact social media has on students?

-Taneekwa
