So far, the process for this project has been fairly smooth. A few challenges I've been facing are,

Coming up with ideas. I found inspiration for the first sketch I made during the brainstorming step quickly, however coming up with the second one was a bit more difficult for me, as I didn't have many ideas at first.
Transparent paint. Paint seems to like to be more transparent when I don't want it to be, or not transparent enough when I'm trying to make something that's less opaque. Watering down paint seems to help make it more transparent, and adding a layer of white under more see-through paints can help the color stand out more, as I've figured out through trial and error. It's somewhat annoying at times.

Overall, the project is going well, and I'm learning things as I go.

So far the process has been going okay. I started on the smaller of the two pieces first, and this one is in acrylic, while I'm thinking of switching to oil pastel for the second piece. One of my biggest challenges so far has been the usage of color. I want to create a warm atmosphere, but when I took the reference photo it looked very cold, so I had to improvise in terms of the colors. The space has a lot of gray, so it has been a struggle to create the atmosphere that I want for the painting. However, I still feel like I'm learning as I go, so hopefully it will turn out.

I'm making an acrylic painting and its going pretty well. It was hard to get really thin lines for the spider man mask using a paintbrush, so I dipped my mechanical pencil tip in the paint and it worked out well. I haven't really worked with color in acrylic paint before so it's definitely a challenge, but the more i'm using it the more i'm getting used to it.

After sketching I started the base tones for the ground which I found difficult. This is because there was a mixture of gray, brown and green that I couldn’t blend right together for the first layer. I’m still not finished with the ground, but it should be easier now to add lighting and dark tones because I was able to establish a difference between rock and grass.

I decided to do the whole sky in one take which I found really difficult to blend the dark blue, light blue, pale yellow, and bright white light that shined from the left side. I found success in adding white and getting the tone of the whole sky to be a nice blend of light colors before adding the dark blue back in. With the mountain being a solid color I was able to work around it and compare the sky to the black mountain which I will add light to later. It will be easier with the sky finished. The next photo shows the clouds I added.

This photo shows the finished sky. The clouds were easier than expected because I just added a white outline of the clouds before coming back in with dark and darker grays. The yellow was also easy to add to the clouds and it helped blend the two colors better together. As for the church I struggled with its base layer. It has a red color underneath but the church is mainly gray so it took a lot of time adjusting the colors. But I feel that I was able to start capturing the light that would realistically be on the building.

I am doing two small paintings for this project. This one I am using gouache and so far have just put a base color on everything so that I can go in with detail next. But i am having a little bit of trouble with the coloring because I try ink the painting is a bit darker than what i imagined it to be. For my next piece I think I might use acrylic paint for it

The process has been okay so far. I think my biggest issue has been painting on photo paper, the glossiness of the paper makes it difficult to sketch onto. I ended up having to just paint without a sketch, which made the process more difficult. This also required me to build up a ton of layers of paint to get the affect I wanted, and when I made a mistake I had to color match to the black and white photo, which was tough to do, but overall it’s been going well.

For this project I decided to make two art pieces that fit together while also experimenting with different canvas sizes and types of paint. I'm using acrylic for one and watercolor & a bit of pen for the other. Right now I'm working on the background of the smaller art piece and focusing on using brighter shades to compare to the monotone of the different sections of my watercolor painting. It was kind of tricky to figure out how to portray my ideas through the paintings, but I think I've figured out how I want to format things now!

So far it's been going well. I just had a bit of a hard time figuring out exactly how I wanted to portray my idea. There are also a lot of smallish details that I want to put into the painting that I need to actually paint so managing my time has been a bit difficult. Managing proportion and making sure it looks semi-realistic with the reflection was also a bit of work but I think it's fine.

My initial sketch was very rough, and primarily made to get the general idea of the piece down on paper. Although I liked the look of the destroyed building and how the subject was framed, I was ultimately unsatisfied with only the single building.

It's a bit difficult to tell from the picture, but I remedied my issue with the initial sketch by placing the subject at a higher perspective, giving room for a larger cityscape. Overall, It's going well so far, if not a bit slowly.
