Consider your own socialization and the fact that you will be influencing the socialization of your students. How do you see what you learned from this session impacting your classroom? Imagine the classroom of your dreams. What is true of the learning environment? The content instruction and curriculum? Your dispositions and actions as a teacher? Your work outside the classroom?

I see the ideal classroom environment for my students as one that is filled with collaboration. I also always appreciated classes where I got to personally know some of my other classmates personally, so there would also be time set aside for them to get to know more about each other through our assignments and projects. I would also love for them to be able to see themselves as leaders, so definitely allowing them to see themselves in different leadership roles. Their input on assignments and projects would also be valued as I want to empower them to be interested in or motivated by exploration

My ideal classroom environment is focused on progress. There is no end goal, just a faith in the journey and safety that we each have the support of our peers to go at the pace that is right for us. My socialization goes against this ideal, so I will have to be very vigilent in my teaching style to create this environment

The learning environment is one where students feel empowered and motivated to learn with each other. I know TFA doesn't necessarily endorse this, but I feel that it's important to participate in politics and policy-making (calling elected officials, volunteering, writing, etc.) so that classroom reform becomes a societal priority and not just the work of individual teachers.

I see my learning environment as very student centered. Not only in our classroom activities, lessons, and projects, but even in the way students choose to set up the room through their seating, decor, etc. It's really important for me to be connected to the community and student extracurriculars outside of the classroom.

I want to make sure my students feel supported and accepted as their authentic selves in my classroom. I will be vulnerable, genuine, and kind to all my students, so that perhaps they might feel encouraged to behave the same way. I will be conscious of my students' backgrounds and interests so my lessons can be fun, engaging, and rigorous. I will be aware of my biases so I can hold myself accountable for any unfair treatment and avoid over-disciplining my students.

Reflecting on my own socialization has reminded me the importance of being very intentional with how I set up my learning environment. I want to ensure my students are joyful in their learning, not focused on the end results (grade motivated). I really appreciated project based learning because it allows for student choice and creativity and relatability within the classroom. I want my students to be able to hone in their skills without having to fit one mold. I appreciate the idea of being outspoken or inspoken (talking outwardly, or inwardly) as both being important components to learning and that one is not more than the other. Inspoken students are still doers and changemakers.
