The abuse of these substances usually occur towards the end of middle school. Students usually drop out of high school due gateway drugs such as marijuana, alcohol, or prescription medication. In Chapter 13, we learn the effects of marijuana which makes you relaxed and that causes laziness. This is strong part on why students in these environments drop out so soon. These substance abuse causes them to be lazy and have short term memory so they don't take the important things serious in life.

The attitude towards marijuana depend on if you the user or not. Most of the people that takes marijuana think that it is a cool thing to do because it has minimal negative effects and most people take it for medical use. In chapter 13, it says how medical marijuana involves using the THC to calm or prevent illness that you are suffering with. On the other side, the people that don't use Cannabis think it has a negative effect. They say the effects cause them to be difficult with concentration and causes short term memory which is also explained in Chapter 13.

I will do a prevention strategy to the youth in the dangerous parts of Detroit, MI. After looking into Chapter 2, the model that fit this strategy would be the Moral Model. The Moral Model is when the people in these dangerous areas take drugs and start to be addicted because of the poor morals and lifestyle that they are accustomed to. I want the youth to that taking these drugs is bad choice and you don't have to do it just because the people around them are.

I want to work with the early elementary school students and middle school students that didn't experience any type of drugs so i will use my level one factors. In Chapter 17, the level 1 factors focuses on your interpersonal factors so i will start programs for the age groups of 8-14 years old. I will give them information on the bad effects of the drugs and teach them personal and social skills so they would know its more opportunity in life so they wouldn't stress and depend on drugs.

After doing my research on methods of treatments, i found out the best way would be counseling or medication. Once a person is addicted to drug, it is hard to get them not addicted. Most people that are addicted to drugs are going through things that they keep private so by having counseling with give them an opportunity to open up and learn that drugs are not the only way to take away stress and you have people that care about you. Also the medication is the best way to recovery because most times why drugs are so addictive because they are still in your body or you are accustomed to it so the medication/detox will take it out of your system which will make it easier to recover.
