He already angered some religious leaders when he said that just appearing religous doesn't please god. Antipas (the ruler of Galilee) also began seeing Jesus as a threat, and other leaders began to have the same fear that Jesus/his followers would begin a revolt against the Romans. The romans sealed the tomb and had guards around it. Some women deciples of Jesus, visited the tomb the following Sunday, to see that the guards were gone and tomb empty.
