         <description><![CDATA[<p>Blood pressure is crucial to cardiovascular health, but measuring it using traditional pressurized cuff systems can be inconvenient and can produce unreliable results. A one-off measurement gives clinicians one snapshot in time, potentially missing an intermittent problem. Patients can also be prone to “white coat syndrome,” where anxiety during such measurements can lead to significantly misleading results. (Hastings, 2022)  These and other issues result in both the overtreatment and undertreatment of various cardiovascular problems.</p><p><br></p><p>Continuous measurements are preferable to allow clinicians to analyze trends in patients blood pressures throughout the day and night, but pressurized cuff systems are cumbersome and inconvenient to wear on the move. This has inspired development of cuffless monitors, but some of these, such as optical systems, have been found to have accuracy issues. Vivalink has created a cuffless blood pressure patch that the company reports is less prone to such issues. (Hastings, 2022)</p><p><br></p><p>Vivalink's patch device is FDA/NMPA cleared for ECG and heart rate, and CE cleared for ECG, heart rate and respiratory rate. Its blood pressure feature is integrated and available for research and development. (<em>Vivalink Announces World’s First Multi-Vital Blood Pressure Patch for Remote Patient Monitoring</em>, 2022) This device leverages continuous ECG and mechanical signals instead of photoplethysmography (PPG). The use of electrical and mechanical signals can reduce the negative impacts from ambient lighting or high body mass index which are both commonly experienced by PPG sensors. This new approach is still in its development stages, and Vivalink is making the device available for research and development only at this point. (Hastings, 2022)</p><p><br></p><p>Vivalink’s goal is to improve technology to bring conventional hospital grade monitoring capabilities into the home or any remote location in the world. With medical wearables and telemetry, the cost can be significantly reduced and accessibility drastically increased so patients anywhere in the world can have access to healthcare. I thrive on consistency, routine and structure; therefore I am able to prioritize and create order and rules where needed.          <description><![CDATA[<p>In my opinion, the Vivalink cuffless blood pressure patch is a promising innovation in remote patient monitoring. The small size, light weight, and inconspicuous nature of the patch make it comfortable for patients to wear throughout the day and night. The fact that it is reusable, rechargeable, and does not require additional components like wires or cuffs adds to its convenience.</p><p><br></p><p>Out-patient continuous blood pressure monitoring and trending can aid physicians in identifing cardiovascular problems, such as orthostatic hypotension, that can easily be missed with a one-time reading.  It will also be beneficial in the diagnosis and management of hypertension.</p><p><br></p><p>The device's use of continuous ECG and mechanical signals, instead of optical systems like PPG, addresses accuracy issues found with those technologies. This innovative approach contributes to the reliability of blood pressure measurements.</p><p><br></p><p>In conclusion, the Vivalink cuffless blood pressure patch shows great promise in bringing continuous monitoring capabilities into homes and remote locations. Continued research and development to improve accuracy and user experience will likely determine the device's effectiveness in real-world healthcare scenarios.</p>]]></description>
