There were mixed reaction to the new arrivalds among the Aulus population some people
helped the jews they gave vegetables and food. Some resented them feaving, that they
would prove on added strain on Aulus ressources, aldready st retched by war time
The summer of 1942 was vichy's shame because Jews were delivered to the Germans from
a part of France, the free zones, where no Germans had settled.
The prefets of the vichy departements were told they should conduct round-ups to pick
Jews in the early morning of 26 August Ideally between 4 and 5 am.

Jeanne and her family are farmer. Her mother sold milk from their cows to Jewish families and gave vegetables from their garden to anyone who asked for help. On 8 November 1942, the allies began Operation Torch in the France's North African
colonies. Then on the 11 th the Germans crossed the demarcation line wish divided the occupied and free zones of France in response. So Jeanne would help her father as a guide to escort jews through the mountains and Spain. At that time Jeanne was nineteen year-old. At 3 A.M on the fifth Decembre with 9 another jews. That was difficult, long and a painful crossing . The night was clear, but it was bitterly cold. It tooks twelve hours to reach the summit and the border with spain.
Jean-Baptiste Rogalle was a guide too, he meet Jeanne during a crossing and they fell in love.
One day he escorted a woman down from the mountainside, arranging to rendevous on the
bridge across the river Garbet the following morning but he never saw her again because
