Red rover.

Kids be in a line and others in a line holding hands. Red rover red rover we call Karen to come over. Then I would run and try break the hand chain. We say out loud red rover red rover.

The activity im thinking of is when we go outside I will get toy fishes and hide them in the snow and tell the kids to pretend to be nanuqs and look for the fishes with their hands. First will show them how its done and hopefully they’ll get the hang of it.

The nanuq is a predator and the fishes are prey. Predator is looking for something to eat, and the fishes are prey that the nanuq will look for fishes to eat.

My activity is summer sand digging. This would work well for infants because they’re using their sensory, which is a physical domain. I would introduce the sand to the infants and then show them a few of the arctic animals I or we have introduced prior to the activity. I would reinforce all the names of the animals in Inuktitut and English.

Summer Sand Activity:

The children will play outside in a sand box or in a sandy area. They will explore mixing sand and water together using buckets, rocks, toy shovels and pails.

One way I could share vocabulary with babies and toddlers is I could go into the sandbox or sandy area and start “mixing a cake” (the sand, water and rocks together). Then I would ask the children if they want to make cook their own meal (like a cake, pie, or stew). Then I would ask them if they want to make one big thing together, and help each other by naming their friends names to come on over and play together.

Activity for babies or toddlers:

Activity I am thinking of is with babies and toddlers

We can use white felt into circles and have the toddlers stack the round felts like a snow man or an igloo. With babies we can show them the round felt balls and have them watch us put the felts on top of each other. We can also count how many are stack on top in English and Inuktitut. We can also say we’ll be making a snowman have black felt for eyes, Orange color for nose, construction paper for arms, a black hat out of black construction. Paper.

This activity I want to share with my class is an ice block water play. The children will explore ice blocks with toys inside and break up the ice to get to the toy using a toy hammer. For infants, we would freeze the toys without water, just enough for them to feel the cold. We would ask them to describe what it feels like, then tell them it’s cold like the snow outside. Encourage them to describe what they’re doing and what they see.

My activity is summer (or all season) i would tell the children we are going to play hide and seek. One child has to count to 20 or 30 and the other infants/children would go hide and wait for the one that is counting to be done, they would hide til they are caught, they would have to run to go to the spot were the child was counting to try and say “home free” whoever is the last to get caught would count. It’s great for all ages even for adults. Children can hide anywhere they like but nowhere were we put boundaries. It’s a fun activity for all ages.

Inuktitut baseball

This is simple and easy to teach for toddlers, it’s an activity for outdoors, we can use homemade sealskin ball and a wooden baseball. This includes taking turns and good to play in the summer. One person in the middle with batter, another person holding the “ball” to throw to batter, if they bat it, they’re still in the middle but if the person threw it and batter doesn’t bat it, the person next to the ball gets to have a turn or the person who threw it gets to bat.

Couple weeks ago I introduced the children with Polar Bear Fishing. The plan was to go outside and hide all the toy fish underneath the snow while everyone is inside and as they are Nanuqs that are looking for fish to “eat”. I separated each fish in the designated area and buried them underneath the snow and put out two buckets for them to put the fish in. I alined the children and as they get into a position of a nanuq, I count to three and they will dig into the snow like a nanuq and once they find one fish they will bring them to the bucket one at a time and continue on until both buckets are full and that there is no more fish to be found.

Going for a walk is the activity we would be doing, because its keeping them outside and were asking them questions

During fall season we would go for a walk and see the nature, children’s would be in the line and we would ask them the colours of the leaves, what else there is, and during those walks they would see a loader, sewage truck, water truck, we would ask them what they are and what colour, seeing birds, ask what kind they are and what sound they make…

I would make them count how many things we’ve seen….. (calculating)

An activity I would do is, building a snowman.

The kids enjoy building snowman’s.

pushing snow balls makes them tired and ready for quiet time. Last time we build a snowman a lot of the kids were looking for rocks for the mouth and button’s. they also really enjoyed building it because we actually used branches for the arms. I had one child start on one snow ball and get their daycare friends to help roll the snow once it got too big for her, then they helped another friend roll the second ball. After the third one they were getting tired so finished it for them while they all looked for rocks.

Using syllables with the babies, asking them to pronounce snow-man.
