The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is about a girl who is faced with a horrible power, she can kill people with her mind. She doesn't think that she can ever be good again until she meets Noah who can save people and he wants to save her. I chose this book for Alaska because she is a lot like the main character Mara, they are both mysterious and trying to look for way to get out of their lives that they have been stuck with. I think that Alaska could benefit from reading this book because she would learn that even though something negative comes up in your life you can make a positive.
</sub>

In 13 reasons why Hannah Baker commits suicide and leaves tapes for all the people that were part of why she did it. The main character Clay was very hard on himself in thinking it was all his fault and if he just had told Hannah the truth she wouldn't have done it. Miles and Chip thought they were to blame for Alaska's death because they didn't stop her from driving drunk or helping with her depression. If Alaska would have read this novel she would have understood the impact that she had on others lives and it wasn't just about her getting out of the labyrinth, the people she cared about would be affected too.

In this Nicholas Sparks book, Ronnie a teenage girl is forced to live with her dad for the summer. She soon falls for the small towns popular, privileged Will Blakelee. Later in the story Ronnie finds out that her dad has cancer and he is going to die, she ends up spending more time with him until the very end. In looking for Alaska, 2 days before she died her friends and her were sitting in a circle asking questions to each other and she tells the group that on the worst day of her life her mother had passed out and stopped breathing, but Alaska was young at the time and didn't know what to do. Alaska's mother ended up dying and her father blamed her for it. I thought this would be a good book for Alaska because Ronnie's dad died as well and she had to deal with a lot of grief. Alaska would have gained from reading this because she could have learned to deal with that grief in a way Ronnie did through her music instead of bottling it all up.

In the book Harry Potter, Harry is a wizard who is being hunted down by voldemort (a dark wizard) to fulfill a prophecy in which one of them has to kill the other. i would recommend this to Alaska because i feel that he could relate to it, not because she is a wizard but because she is also being chased by something and has to fight it. voldemort in Harry Potter is like depression in Alaska's life where everyday she struggles to fight it. the lesson Alaska could learn is that even though there might be something bad in your life you can fight it and win, you shouldn't give up.

In the book Hush Hush Nora is a regular high school student until she is paired up with the school's bad boy Patch. Nora falls for Patch later in the book but he doesn't think she should be with him because he has a bad past, he is a fallen angel. Alaska should read this book because i feel that she is like Patch because she doesn't think that Miles should be with her for a majority of the book and wants to be "safe" with her current boyfriend. Miles is like Nora where he is really innocent but has fallen for something dark, but he can't help but love her. If Alaska were to read this book she would see that in the end it is the better decision to follow your heart than trying to be safe.
