Prior to its construction, as we know it today, there was already a 1971 built due to an outbreak of cholera on Moroccan soil.7 The fence as it is known today began to be erected in 1998, promoted by the Government of Jose María Aznar, 8 first as a single fence and finally as two parallel fences three meters high, It consists of 12 km of two parallel fences 6 meters high with barbed wire on top. There are alternate surveillance posts and paths between the fences for the passage of surveillance vehicles. Cables under the ground connect a network of electronic noise and motion sensors. It is equipped with high intensity lights and surveillance video cameras, as well as night vision equipment. Its height has doubled to 12 meters due to the mass immigrant crisis in September and November 2005 from the nearby Mount Gurugú camp.

Attempts to climb it are thwarted by the retractable characteristics of its rear end. Between the first and second there is a spider web-like framework with a steel cable without sharp elements, which slows down maneuverability.

It incorporates presence sensors, automatic cameras and all the information is centralized in a management point. It means a saving of surveillance personnel of around 50%.

In 2013 and 2014 a metal mesh was placed in which the fingers cannot be inserted to climb. A second helicopter was also incorporated into the Civil Guard surveillance team and the first was equipped with a thermal camera and a spotlight to monitor Moroccan territory at night. Two Rapid Intervention Modules of the Civil Guard are in charge of repelling the assaults.

The most accurate translation, in Spanish, is black. But even with the pejorative burden that it already has in Spanish, the wound it opens, the pain it causes and the controversy it raises cannot be understood.

That was the way the whites called the blacks as they subdued them as slaves. That word has not been used for decades, an implicit prohibition hovers over it for anyone who is not black. Saving all possible distances, it has the same double face as "🤬" in the LGTBIQ community: you can pronounce it if you are part of that community, but it is not a good idea to do it if you are not. 🤬, as a 🤬, they were used for decades in a derogatory, insulting way, almost spat on by those unable to tolerate anything other than themselves, blinded by an incomprehensible, petty and absurd hatred.

In recent months, the wave unleashed in the United States by the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement has reached Europe, bringing with it both the denunciation of current racism and the need to decolonize historical narratives. Many neighboring countries have responded by opening important debates on the need to make visible the historical role of Afro-Europeans and their contribution to our societies. In Spain, however, it seems as if this is not with us: as if the presence of black people here is a recent phenomenon and any previous presence a merely anecdotal issue.

The Melilla fence is a physical barrier located in the limits of the Spanish city of Melilla with Morocco, in North Africa and in Spanish territory. Its purpose is to hinder or prevent the entry of illegal immigrants. Although previously there was a wire fence, installed in 1971 due to a cholera outbreak in Morocco, the fence as we know it today began to be built in 1998 during the first term of José María Aznar.

The concertinas were installed in 2005 during the government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. They were removed in 2007 and replaced in 2013. In June 2020 they were replaced by a bar structure.

The Melilla border, together with that of Ceuta, are the only two land borders of the European Union in Africa.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political and social protest that began in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, with the intention of opposing the policy of racial segregation in the public transportation system. The fight dragged on when Rosa Parks was detained for refusing to give her seat on a bus to a white person, until December 20, 1956, when the Browder v. Gayle went into effect and led the Supreme Court to declare the laws requiring segregation on buses in Montgomery unconstitutional.1 Many prominent personalities in the civil rights movement participated in the boycott.

Malcolm X was an African American Muslin minister and human rights activist who was a popular figure during the civil rights movement. He is best known for his time spent as a vocal spokesman for the Nation of Islam.

When Malcolm was six years old, his father was murdered for his work in defense of workers' rights and his mother was admitted to a mental hospital because of the madness of having her children taken away from her. After living in a series of foster homes, Malcolm X became involved in the Boston and New York underworld, and in 1945 he was sentenced to between eight and ten years in prison. In prison, Malcolm X became a member of the Nation of Islam and after his parole in 1952, he became a minister of the organization. For nearly a dozen years he was the public face of the Nation of Islam, but tensions between him and Elijah Muhammad (leader of the Nation of Islam) led to his departure from the organization in March 1964.

After leaving the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X made the pilgrimage to Mecca and converted to Sunnism. He traveled extensively throughout Africa, the Middle East, and even visited the Soviet Union. Those trips changed his vision of the world and the fight for civil liberties. He founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc., an Islamic organization, and the secular Organization of African American Unity. Less than a year after leaving the Nation of Islam, on February 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan by Thomas Hagan, a member of the Nation of Islam, and two other men, during a speech at a meeting of the Organization of African American Unity.

The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century, and used by enslaved African-Americans to primarily escape into free states and Canada. The scheme was assisted by abolitionists and others sympathetic to the cause of the escapees. The enslaved who risked escape and those who aided them are also collectively referred to as the "Underground Railroad. Various other routes led to Mexico. where slavery had been abolished, and to islands in the Caribbean that were not part of the slave trade. An earlier escape route running south toward Florida, then a Spanish possession (except 1763–83), existed from the late 17th century until approximately 1790. However, the network now generally known as the Underground Railroad was formed in the late 1700s. It ran north and grew steadily until the Civil War began. One estimate suggests that, by 1850, 100,000 enslaved people had escaped via the network
