This website explains that a stock market crash is a sudden, significant drop in stock prices, usually driven by a range of factors, including economic instability, geopolitical tensions, or major financial disruptions. Typically, a crash is marked by a double-digit percentage decline in the market’s value within a few days, signalling widespread investor panic and leading to substantial losses to the shareholder's finances. The site further explores how events such as recessions, and inflation spikes cause downward trends, creating an environment of uncertainty. It emphasizes that stock market crashes often have ripple effects on broader economic conditions, consumer confidence, and in severe cases national economies.

I chose this website because it showcases a variety of important examples of huge stock market crashes. I also chose this website because it provides a great definition of what a stock market crash actually is and how it happens.

I would share with my friends and family tips on if you're investing how to make sure that if there is a stock market crash, you will not lose mass amounts of money. These tips I would pass on would be: Diversify your portfolio, don't just invest all of your extra savings in stocks, and if you are going to invest, choose to invest in safer sectors such as health care or everyday consumer needs. I would suggest these three tips to them because if you diversify your investments, then some of your investments can crash, and others can be completely fine. I would suggest that you don't fully invest all your extra savings in stocks because they are so unpredictable and can drop at any time. Lastly, I would suggest investing in safe sectors because you know that they are stocks that will hardly crash making it a safer bet.

This image shows potential long term strategies to minimize the impact of a stock market crash for an individual. One effective approach mentioned is to diversify your portfolio. Spreading investments across multiple sectors of stocks and through different asset types such as bonds or real estate to help reduce risk. Another potential strategy is to invest in the long-term, meaning that you should stay patient even if the market is dipping. Following a market crash the prices of stocks do eventually increase again. As well, it is important to keep an eye on investments in the stock market, making sue to review and monitor to ensure the portfolio continues to align with investment goals, in addition to staying informed on positions. Additionally, investing a fixed amount on a scheduled basis can potentially help reduce the impact of market volatility. Lastly, staying disciplined with investments is important, making sure to try to avoid panicking when the market starts to dip.

I chose this image as I believe it provides some good information and strategies to follow when investing, and how to minimize loss in a potential stock market crash.

In this video Kevin O'Leary provides some ways in which to minimize loss in a market crash. He explains that it's too risky to have all your money invested in stocks, but rather some should be invested in fixed incomes such as bonds as well as holding onto some cash. In addition, Kevin explains in the video that many people today aren't used to major corrections in the stock market, which are a normal phenomenon in the market. Instead of getting scared and selling, it is suggested to stay in the investment for the long term, buying profitable companies which pay dividends. By doing this it is suggested that investors will be able to minimize loss during a market crash.

I chose this video as it was a basic introduction into ways in which investors can minimize loss in the event of a market crash. I think that it's important to understand the possibility of a market crash and make strategic decisions when investing which will protect investments.

This video describes the worst TSX market crash since 1940, occurring on March 12, 2020. The stock market is described as a show of confidence or a lack of confidence in the economy, which occurs when people go out and spend money. Following the news of Covid-19 in Canada, resulting in the closure of schools and professional sports leagues, as well as people being afraid of going outside, the market dropped. This drop was unique and unprecedented for the time as past financial crises had arisen due largely in part to due people, however this crash was due to the unpredictability caused by the pandemic. People staying at home to be safe was predicted to continue to drop the price of stocks as well as lead to a recession in which unemployment would increase.

I chose this video as it is a time in which I believe many of us can relate to and understand as it is a more recent market crash than some of the other notable examples. Many people in Canada were affected by Covid-19, however, while I had understood the market was affected, I was unaware of why. Watching this video provided information on the stock market surrounding an event which I lived through.

This video describes the market drop seen around the world in 1987, as well as the impact it had. The market day beginning in Asia with the Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney having their worst drop on record. Following this, other stock markets such as in London, Paris, New York, and Toronto also plunged. There was an increase in concern surrounding interest rates, rising inflation, the weak US dollar value, as well as a possibility for a recession. The Toronto stock exchange fell 407 points as everyone races to sell.

I chose this video as I believe it demonstrates how interconnected all the stock exchange markets are. When American stocks fall the rest of the world is affected. Specifically we see in the video, how immense of an impact Black Monday had on the Toronto stock exchange. This video is from the CBC archives which is reliable and provides an insight into what Black Monday was really like.

The video above is of Peter Lynch, a well known investor who shares tips on how to capitalize on a stock market crash. Peter talks about how often times people will purchase a stock because they see it is on the rise and want to invest while its on the come up without understanding the company. This also goes the other way, as Peter explains that investors sometimes fall into the trap of thinking "how much lower can it go?". These investors invest in a company that they believe won't go any lower but get nervous and sell when it continues to drop. Peter's biggest pieces of advice were to research the companies and understand them, making sure they don't have any debt as well as being patient. Buying stocks as the price falls and continuing to see the price fall afterwards can be disheartening, however Peter explains that by being patient and investing in companies you research and understand to have a healthy bottom line will eventually rise in price again.

I chose this video as I believe it provides a different outlook on stock market crashes. Often times it appears that people aim to minimize loss in a stock market crash, but as Peter explains there are crashes every two years which can be capitalized to make a profit if an investor is patient and researches thoroughly.

Understanding the importance of diversifying investments is key as it provides a baseline strategy in which to invest with. I would also pass on the importance of investing for the long term. Instead of investing in a company which has recently had success it is more beneficial to invest in a company which has a solid bottom line, pays dividends. Holding onto these types of stocks even during a market crash will be beneficial as it is likely that they will recover.
