A news article is still sad, but we don’t know the personal relationships of the person who died or behind the scenes of what happened that morning or the day before. I think the authors purpose was to show that numbers of people who died are still people, and have their own lives and loved ones. Reading this poem gave me this picture of the complete day going through leading up to those moments of the bombing and made you realize that life is a precious gift and can be taken away easily. He added some phrases like “no baby no you may not go” to give us a sense of how the mother felt about her going to the freedom march that day. This differs because most people cannot speak from experience when you write an article, but when it is a poem about how this situation affects their life.
