         <description><![CDATA[<p>Eusthenopteron - The fleshy fins had a series of stout bones supporting them, including elements that correspond to the limb bones of modern land vertebrates—the humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia, and fibula.</p><p><br/></p><p>Acanthostega - is an extinct genus of stem-tetrapod, among the first vertebrate animals to have recognizable limbs. It appeared in the late Devonian period about 365 million years ago, and was anatomically intermediate between lobe-finned fishes and those that were fully capable of coming onto land.</p><p><br/></p><p>Panderichthys - Panderichthys had pectoral fins that matched the tetrapod forelimb pattern of a humerus, ulna, and radius; and had a tibia and fibula in the the posterior fins (Morton 1997). The pelvic girdle also displays derived and ancestral traits, further supporting that Panderichthys was a transitional genus (Wikipedia 2009).</p><p><br/></p><p>Coelacanth - Coelacanths even move their paired fins much like land animals move their limbs: the right pectoral fin moves in conjunction with the left pelvic fin, for example. And their movement is extremely dexterous. They scull the water like oars and can rotate through 180°.</p><p><br/></p><p>Hynerpetons - In fact, like most tetrapods, it evolved from the lobe-finned fishes, which were jawed fishes. they could adapt to a home at the water's edge. As a way to exploit the oxygen of the Devonian, Hynerpeton had evolved complex lungs. Their lungs were sacks just as a human's. And as such, Hynerpeton breathed as humans do, forcing air in and in order for their blood to absorb more oxygen. Although they could breathe on land, Hynerpeton were still water-bound.</p><p><br/></p><p>Metaxygnathus- There are no ventral fins. Gastralia are commonly present which enforce this flat profile further down the body wall.</p><p><br/></p><p>Elginerpeton - Its fin skeleton, with a substantial humerus, radius, and ulna as well as other robust skeletal elements, has provided the baseline from which to evolve a limb. It has been known since the early twentieth century, when it provided the basis for many transformation scenarios.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ray Finned fish-  the fins are supported by parallel bony rays, which in life are webbed with thin tissue; the fins themselves contain very little muscle, and are primarily moved by muscles within the body.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ichthyostega - The Ichthyostega evolved into the first group of four-limbed animals. This subsequently gave rise to different groups of tetrapods, including amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.  Ichthyostega is the earliest vertebrate to show obvious adaptations for non-swimming locomotion. Uniquely among early tetrapods, the presacral vertebral column shows pronounced regionalization of neural arch morphology, suggesting that it was adapted for dorsoventral rather than lateral flexion.</p><p><br/></p><p>Amphibians- Amphibians evolved about 365 million years ago from a lobe-finned fish ancestor. As the earliest land vertebrates, amphibians were highly successful for more than 10 0 million years until reptiles took over as the dominant land vertebrates. Amphibians are found throughout the world except in Antar ctica and Greenland. The skin thickens as dermal glands develop and the caudal fin is resorbed. Gills are resorbed and gill slits close as lungs develop and branchial (gill) circulation is modified. Eyelids, tongue, and a maxillary bone are formed, and teeth develop on the maxillary and parasphenoid bones.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

Greererpeton were probably aquatic, with an elongated body adapted for swimming.</p>]]></description>
