He has a large amount of power as he is a priest and is respected. For this reason, he can influence many people eg. Romeo and Juliet. His power still stands at the end of the play, backed up by prince. 'We still have known thee for a holy man'.

Montague was a man with power as he was also head of one of Verona's most powerful families, matched with Capulet. Much like Capulet, he had power over his wife and servants. There are not many examples of this power as he is not in the play a lot.

The Prince of Verona. He has the ultimate power over all the citizens. Examples, Act 1 Scene 1 when he reprimands the two heads of houses 'once more, on pain of death, all men depart', and Act 5 Scene 3 where he delivers the final verdict on who to punish for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. 'Some shall be pardoned and some punishèd'.

Friar Lawrence had power over Romeo, this was due to Romeo's need for Friar Lawrence's guidance. Therefore, whatever Friar Lawrence said, Romeo would listen. We see this when Romeo says "And badest me bury love." This was when Friar Lawrence complained that Romeo had fallen in love with another person. Romeo is saying that Friar Lawrence told him to bury his love, implying that Friar Lawrence had given him the advice previously. Lord Montague has power over Romeo as Romeo was his son, he had power of Romeo. Romeo and Mercutio's relationship was complicated, it is hard to say who had power over who, or whether there was no power and pure friendship.

Paris was respected as he was kinsman to the prince. He had power over Juliet as her suitor, approved by Capulet. 'So worthy a gentleman to be her bride'. It could be said he had power over Romeo in a social sense being such a worthy gentleman and was respected by Capulet, unlike Romeo.

Juliet had a lot of influence on nurse and never really looked up to someone. But Capulet had a lot of power over her and had a lot of control over her life. In act 3 scene 5 this power over Juliet is shown where her father gets very angry at her for disobeying him, because she doesn't want to marry Paris.

Nurse and Juliet had a two way power where they both had a lot of respect and power over each other. They both influenced each other and although Nurse was the mentor it didn't mean that Juliet was always looking up to her. Example. in Act 3 Scene 5, Juliet expects the nurse to side with her on refusing to marry Paris, but instead, the nurse tells her she should forget Romeo and agree to marry Paris. We see the nurse losing some power over Juliet as the trust they had weakens.

Mercutio was kinsman to the prince, but didn't have any power. However, since he was a Romeo's best friend, he was able to influence him. For example, he convinces Romeo to attend the Capulet party so he would get over Rosaline. 'Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance'.

Who did Tybalt have power over? No one, he only had power over himself and that was enough to cause destruction in the rest of Verona. Lord Capulet had obvious power over Tybalt, we can see this when Lord Capulet says in Act 1 Scene 5 "He shall be endured" when referring to Romeo. This shows the power that Capulet has over Tybalt, preventing him from attacking Romeo at the party. However, there is an extent to the power that Lord Capulet has as he wasn't able to prevent Tybalt from killing Mercutio.

Capulet was definitely one of the characters who had a lot of power as he was the head of one of Verona's most powerful families, equaling Montague. He had power over Juliet, her life and her decisions since she was his daughter. His power over Juliet was strong because Juliet had no option but to obey him or be thrown out, this is evident in Act 3 Scene 5 when Juliet angers him by refusing to marry Paris. We can also see the power he has over Lady Capulet, the nurse and his servants during its scene. He also had power Tybalt and Paris seeing as he was the man of the house.
