Russian Grand Prix Race Report

Russian Grand Prix Race Report 26/09/21 LINK ABOVE

Had to cover the grand prix, very similar to how a match report is done, except their is now Half-Time to write half the report!
The report has to be published within the hour of the race finishing.

Reflection:
Arguably the most stressed I have ever been whilst covering a race. I was on race report duty, meaning I had to effectively write a race report whilst it was happening, and a LOT happened. It was probably one of the most exciting races I’ve watched in a long time. You can’t just wait until the highlights are out to write the report, by then other websites will have already released their report, it’s about being as quick and as accurate as possible. I’ve never typed so much in my life but it was a valuable experience to gain, being able to write a report whilst it’s happening live was a challenge but a worth whole one. The report was well received across social media and gave me the confidence to put myself forward to write more race reports rather than just cover the press releases.

March 2021-Current. TCF Author Page

Since March, I have been a journalist for The Checkered Flag, an online independent motorsport news website since 2009, with over 19k followers on Twitter and over 2k on Instagram.

Having started as just a writer, I had all my work proof-read and published by my editior-in-chief. From this I gained valuable feedback on my writing style and how to improve/develop it. In June I was promoted to self-publisher, meaning I am trusted to publish my own work straight onto the websites social media pages.

My role involves covering Formula 1, covering Press Releases and each session from a F1 weekend as well as session reports. Occassionally involves communicating with other companies who email me asking myself to write an article promoting their event.

This is the link to my author page.

Reflection: it’s been tough going recently working for TCF. When I began the role at the start of the year I had much more time on my hands and therefore more time to put aside for TCF. Now with university being back on campus and with the additional time of commuting, time-management has become more important than ever for myself. It’s been difficult finding the right balance between studies, writing and my personal life, however I feel like I’m managing well. It’s been exhausting covering F1 this season, with it being the longest season in the history of the sport. Having to cover three races back-to-back across three weekends multiple times this year has been a very stressful experience. Writing 10-20 pieces across 3/4 days three weekends in a row has been a real challenge. However it’s getting myself used to what it’s like to work in F1 as a journalist, and it’s absolutely frantic.

Started a YouTube channel back in January 2021 whilst Covid restrictions were still massively in place. Was a way for me to improve my presenting, content creation, editing and filming whilst going to university wasn't possible. Despite channel's so far slow growth, to me it's more of a place where I can improve my skills and make content which I enjoy and want to share with people.

Reflection:

Finally finished the show, was definitely a difficult process. The show does look good and is already attracting views on sports locker but I do feel like it could be so much better. I don’t think we communicated well as a team meaning that in the end it all felt very rushed, we are lucky to an extent that the editor has done a really good job and that the presenting from myself and Doeke went well too. Perhaps we were caught up with other assignments, it just became really frustrating with people not doing their roles. Maybe I should’ve taken a more senior role other than just presenter so that I could have tried to keep everyone on track.

Unbelievable experience reporting and co-presenting on the latest episode of Inside Rangers, as QPR u23’s took on Ipswich Town u’23. Incredibly proud seeing myself on the club website and on their socials. I feel like the day went really well and that my presenting was strong. I think my reporting needs some improvement as I missed some good opportunities to ask follow up questions. I feel so much more confident presenting rather than reporting . Nevertheless an unforgettable experience and something I can use to get jobs in the future

As a final artefact, myself and some peers, who I also did the podcast and Hemel Hempstead show with, have decided to make another TV show. This show will be on the new Sunday league social media team Millennium Arch FC, who are run by some third year student at UCFB. Having decided roles I am again the presenter.

Show prep is going well, we’ve lined up an interview with the club’s secretary and have piled together some research which I can use to begin the script writing process. All in all it’s going much better than the last show.

Just recorded the show in the studio, all went really smoothly with no difficulties whatsoever. Felt like my presenting was good, may even use some of the footage in my show reel. Now over to the editor to piece the whole show together.

Just been messaged by the editor, the show is now on SL and looks brilliant. I’m really happy with how the show looks and it’s professional appearance. Definitely going to use some of the footage in my showreel. I feel like the whole process went really well, considering we produced it all within 2 weeks.

Me and some uni peers have decided to make a podcast based around the managerial side of football for one of our artefacts for FB663 CW2.

After having a meeting we’ve decided that Monday’s will be the best time to record the podcast with the aim of having it uploaded to Sports Locker by Wednesday so that it is as relevant to the previous weekends matches as possible.

My role is co-host and researcher, so I’ve got send links to the other hosts the day before we record the pod so that we are fully researched on the topics we are going to discuss and have a reasonable knowledge of them.

Trial pod went well, it flowed nicely between us as we found a way of interacting with each other to let each other know when we want to talk. This was done through eye contact. Overall sounded good but was probably too long, the episode was just over an hour which is probably too long for this sort of podcast.

Just recorded our first real episode for sports locker, it went much better, was around 40mins long and flowed nicely again, nothing else to say really apart from that we will record our next episode next week.

Episode two now recorded and again sounds really good, similar duration to last week as well. It’s now over to the editor to get this pod edited and sent over to SL. The last episode sounded really good when it was uploaded.

So this article I actually wrote during 2nd year of university whilst we were still in a full lockdown. To date it remains my most viewed article with over 7k views and plenty of viewer interaction through likes and comments. I put so many hours of research into this article to make it as factual and accurate as possible, to make the reader feel engaged to it. Overall I probably spent three days making this article, so that includes the research process and the writing process. I remain really happy with it, I believe the article is well written and broken up well with accurate images. I do wish I’d spent more time researching younger riders as these are more unknown people who actually may not have featured in many articles. Apart from that I’m really happy with it.
