I conducted a simple experiment to observe which materials float or sink in water. I used three glasses and tested small pieces of wood, stones, and plastic straws. First, I placed the stones in the water, and they sank to the bottom. Then, I added the plastic straws, and they floated on the surface. Finally, I put the pieces of wood into the glasses, and they also floated. Based on my observations, I concluded that stones sink because they are denser than water, while plastic straws and wood float because they are less dense.

One is filled with hot water and the other with cold water. Then, we add the same amount of sugar to both glasses and stir them equally.

We observe that sugar dissolves faster in hot water than in cold water. This is because the molecules in hot water move faster, which helps the sugar break down and mix more quickly.

In conclusion, temperature affects the rate of dissolving. Higher temperature makes substances dissolve faster.

Then turn the glass cup upside-down and put it on the candle. After a few minutes, you can see the candle slowly goes out.

Result:

Candle uses the oxygen around it while burning. When the cup is placed over the candle, no oxygen cam enter the cup, so the burning stops and candle goes out. This experiment shows that oxygen is necessary for burning. Materials used: Red cabbage, hot water, clear glasses, lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar, dishwashing liquid.

Instructions: Chop the red cabbage and let it sit in hot water for 15 minutes to obtain a dark purple liquid. Pour this purple liquid over glasses containing different chemical substances (lemon juice, baking soda water, etc.).

Result of the experiment: Each substance has a different pH value. Therefore, they all turned different colors. Substances with a pH value between 0-7 (Acids) are red or pinkish, while those with a pH value between 7-14 (Bases) are blue or greenish.

As part of our "17-21 April: Experiment Padlet Completion" task, our students became little scientists! In this video, our students practically demonstrated how to calculate the density of an irregularly shaped object.

How did we do it?

Step 1: First, we measured the mass of our object using an equal-arm balance and found it to be 200 grams (g).

Step 2: To find the volume of the object, we dropped it into a graduated cylinder filled with water. Based on the amount of displaced water, we measured its volume as 200 milliliters (ml).

Step 3: We used one of the basic formulas of science: "Density = Mass / Volume". By calculating 200 g / 200 ml, we found the density of our object to be 1 g/ml.

Through this experiment, our students successfully transformed their theoretical science and math knowledge into a real-life problem-solving skill!
