One of my favorite family traditions is during Christmas. After we pick out a Christmas tree and decorate it my mother gets out our pickle ornament. She then hides the pickle in the tree and whoever finds it first will receive a small gift. This Germanic tradition is fairly old as it goes back a few decades. I consider this tradition the most beloved in our family.

Through learning and researching about my family I have found out a lot about them. One interesting yet sad fact I learned was that my great-great grandparents were both deaf after contracting a disease at a young age. I also learned that myfamily had a street named after them. It was named after my grandfather who passed away, Joseph Risso.
