Culminating in an in-person event at the Highland Council Headquarters in Inverness on the 9^th November 2026 organised by The Open University in Scotland, Highland One World Global Learning Centre and Developing the Young Workforce Inverness and Central Highlands, the programme includes activities to build pupil participation across your school in the run up to the event.

Activities as part of this programme are designed to support work for EcoSchools, Rights Respecting School Awards, Developing the Young Workforce, Learning for Sustainability and School Improvement Plans.

Cracking Cryptography for P5 to S3 (suitable for full classes) -Explore careers in cyber security and learn how to use a Caesar cipher to crack code.

The Programme offers twelve senior phase Highland students the opportunity to gain insight into the work carried out in the legal sector while also experiencing the study of law at higher education level.

The Programme will cover a range of topics, including the Scottish legal system, criminal law and evidence, and will include court observation, legal lectures and analytical exercises. The Programme will conclude with participants conducting a mock trial before a local Sheriff.

The Programme will take place over four days, from Tuesday 14 July to Friday 17 July 2026, and is aimed at students who are considering studying law either at university or through other vocational routes.

We would like to run a practical activity where the students would “set out” an area with the engineering equipment (possible games/play field) and we would be able to break down the many careers involved in this one action with tasks.  These would be tasks relating to engineering, quantity surveying, ecology and health and safety.  We hope this will show the students what is all involved with the civils sector and give some thought to possible career pathways.
