The Iraqi government was from behind the genocide but at the end Saddam Hussein, and Ali Hassan al-Majid were seen the most guilty for the aggression on the Kurdish population.

The Kurdish population were targeted but Assyrian Christians, Yazidi Muslims, Jews, Shabak peoples, and Mandean Christians, where also attacked along with the Kurdish population. The lesser known victims could have done appeasement.

The Kurdish genocide falls under the UN"s definitions because the goal was to get rid of the Kurds. The Government also sent troops to capture and move out the Kurds from their villages and set chemical attacks which affected them physically.

Many of the Kurdish prisoners and those captured were let free. After reports of the mistreatment the U.S. president Ronald Reagan set reparations to Iraq after the attacks they experienced. Also dictator Saddan Hussein and Ali Hassan al-majiid were later on executed since they were held responsible. The Senate passed a comprehensive sanction on Iraq which meant it prevented any other genocide from occuring after it occured.
